Hello all, before I get down to the brass tacks of this I tried going over a thread about this character but seemed a little off for me to accept as a build.
Brief rundown on the character, an Egyptian themed Hawk lord (Horus inspired) who uses souls of the lost to fight his opponents. These souls take on the forms of sand soldiers and they follow his orders. In the game they carry spears, and appear to be lightly armored, and sometimes have shields.
The thread I found described the build as a Magus, however I believe Unchained Broodmaster Summoner may fit this a bit better. The game I'm building this for hasn't started so nothing is set in stone. I was looking at Aasimar, either Agathion, or Angel blooded with variant dropping spell-like for a bonus to a stat, in this case Charisma. 25 Point buy. Everyone is starting at lvl 4, with correct character wealth.
Is a Broodmaster Unchained Summoner a viable class/archetype? is it worth it? The rest of the group is made up of a Aasimar Fighter, Ifrit Swashbuckler, and a Paladin as our "healer" of sorts.
Unchained Summoner is certainly viable, you just have to know that your going to be a bit more restricted with evolutions. I would suggest Inevitable or Earth Elemental for Azir's Sand Soldiers but have you considered going Master Summoner instead?
The broodmaster is a mechanically weak archetype and it would be more in line with the character to use refluffed earth elementals as his sand soldiers are very short term summoned creatures and scale heavily off of Azir's own summoning abilities (which could be replicated with summoning feats to increase their abilities) rather than their own capabilities.
This would lead to an overall more consistent replication of Azir's capabilities and also be a much more mechanically capable combatant than a Broodmaster would be.
I never even considered the master summoner. I'll have to check into this. What your describing sounds on par with my ideas
