How to abuse control weather

Advice

pretty much the subject, i currently have a lv 16 kineticist but he is a pure air elemental ascetic, so now im stuck trying to think of what i can actually do since i have to cause weather that is appropriate to the season and the campaign is currently in early winter so idk what i can do with it any suggestions?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Weather effects are really, really, really deadly if you're not prepared with the right gear or can't cast spells.

Just a quick glance at the weather available to you in Winter is pretty devastating.

Snow imposes -4 to perception like rain does, and at the thickness your blizzard will lay it down, it takes 4 squares of movement to move through one square of snow. Severe winds are also involved, so ranged attacks are worthless and flying is difficult. The extreme cold forces fortitude saves for anyone outside, and can kill lower level people in a matter of minutes.

Damn, nature. You scary!

What's your kineticist's situation? As in, what is a generalized sit-rep on your campaign?

Generally speaking, control weather is essentially a strategic effect. It *can* be used for some tactical conditions, but the lead time to get it running requires preparation. Picking fights on your party's terms can sometimes be difficult, making its use a bit dicey.

It always seemed best used to set up call lightning/storm for tactical considerations, or to make ranged missile attacks much more difficult. Strategically, you can attrition out opposing armies whether you're on offense *or* defense -- think about Saruman's efforts to block the Fellowship from making the crossing on the Pass of Caradhras in LotR: TFotR. If you've got a greater Empower rod, 20 minutes' work every day or two could drop a continuous blizzard around your base of operations to buy you and your party time enough to craft certain items/constructs/etc., or to recuperate from truly dastardly negative conditions.

Do you have any ideas of what you might like to do with it, xakira?

Well were essentailly storming the gates where we will have to defeat essentially a series of bbeg each one stronger than the last. were currently outside. however chances are we will end up inside a building sooner or later. in the party is a arcane trickster, a alchemist, and a spiritualist a psychic and me of course.

i would love to create tornadoes and such however im simply confused how much freedom i have with the spell ?

also since im an air kineticist i dont think i can create a blizzard as that may require me to have water as an element which i do not so i feel that the ability is only useful in the spring or am i not seeing the full picture?

over all i dont know what i can do to know what i want to do im also not to sure if i can do anything since its winter

What ability do you have available to control weather with? That would help with us giving suggestions.

If it is Weather Master...
"Weather Master

Element(s) air; Type utility (Sp); Level 8; Burn 0

By focusing on your connection to air and seeding the air around you for 10 minutes, you can create powerful weather effects, as control weather. You can create tornadoes or hurricane-force winds, as appropriate for the season. If you have access to the fire element, you can create hot weather, a heat wave, a thaw, or an early spring. If you have access to the water element, you can create all other types of weather listed in control weather."

Possible weather effects in Winter from Control Weather...
"Winter Frigid cold, blizzard, or thaw"

It looks like you are SOL in winter without the water or fire element unless you can convince your GM that hurricane-force winds can happen at any time.

Unless it is Late Winter...
"Hurricane-force winds or early spring"

Yep it is i feel like that is the case
