Magic Mouth Spell

Rules Questions

Can the Magic Mouth Spell activate if the thief is in stealth mode?
I know it states that it does not activate in magical darkness or if someone in invisible but it does not mention stealth. I am a DM pondering this question (yes I used DM but I am to old to change that habit).

It would depend on what the trigger condition for the Magic Mouth is.

It's also worth noting that without something to provide you cover/concealment from the position of the magic mouth you cannot use stealth against it.

So you think hide in plain sight the magic mouth would defeat it? As we all know with the right items a good dex and a nice roll stealth can get almost impossible I am just wondering if this spell is a loophole and if it is does that not give this spell a lot of power for a low level spell. Mages would easily be alerted to the presence of thieves even if they could not see them themselves.

Generally, magic mouth doesn't have any special sensory qualities -- it won't trigger off invisible stuff, or things (like alignment) which are not visible to normal sense. I'd say a thief could stealth past one of them. Now, if the mouth goes off when something touches it, that's a different story.
