Path of War Expanded Archetypes and Calculating Initiator Levels

Advice and Rules Questions

The original Path of War book included rules on how to calculate initiator level based on martial discipline classes and non-martial discipline classes, as well as how to calculate multiclass img between the two. Based on your total initiator level, you could check on a table, what your highest maneuver known could be.

With the introduction of PoW Expanded Archetypes for non-martial discipline classes, things seem to have gotten a bit muddied. Does a Myrmidon (Fighter Archetype) count as a martial discipline class, given that it grants maneuvers and stances? Or, do the PoW Archetypes count the same as their base classes?

What happens when you combine an Archetyped Class with a PoW Prestige Class? Do the archetype class levels get added in full or by half to the prestige class levels to determine initiator level? Based on this number, are you able to gain higher level maneuvers per the table in the original Path of War book? Or are you still limitted to the reduced level of maneuvers per the archetype table?

PoW Expanded archetypes count as full initiator classes and get a full initiator level per class level. As for your question about prestige classes,

Path of War: Expanded, page 36 wrote:
The primal disciple learns additional maneuvers at higher levels, as indicated on Table 2-1: Archetype Maneuver Progression. The maximum level of maneuvers gained through primal disciple levels is limited by those listed in that table as well, although this restriction does not apply to maneuvers added to his maneuvers known through other methods, such as prestige classes or the Advanced Study feat. A primal disciple must meet a maneuver’s prerequisite to learn it. See the Systems and Use chapter in Path of War for more details on how maneuvers are used.

It says something like this in the description of every archetype.

i want to convert a Martial Artist (from Tripod Machine)to something like the Stalker from PoW. I've seen the Archetypes for non-martial Classes, but what would I have to get rid of from the Martial Artist to give him Maneuvers and Stances?

also, would there be any way that it could have all nine levels of maneuvers, instead of six? would the disciplines that they can use be up to me?

in a completely unrelated, sort of, manner, i know the Trait Unorthodox Method (regional, any), from PoW, allows you to switch one martial discipline for another. Is there any other method that does the dame thing? Without using the Martial Training Feats?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Converting would be purely up to you and your GM. Use the archetypes for non-martial classes as inspiration for your conversion, likely the fighter because it has a lot of bonus feats. There's no precedent for giving something 9th level maneuver progression, so again that would be up to you and your GM.

You can join Martial Traditions to exchange disciplines. Note that the Allegiance Benefits are optional and only works if your GM allows it.

thnx
