Gather Information: Can you use Know: Local?

Hi - I remember reading somewhere that Know: Local can be used to gather information but I can't find any rule for that anywhere...

In 3.5, if you had 5 or more ranks in Knowledge (local), you got a +2 to Gather Information.

I don't know of any rule in Pathfinder that allows you to substitute Knowledge (local) for Diplomacy to gather information. If you roll well enough on Knowledge (local), you might already know the information and not have to spend 1d4 hours gathering it.

Technically, under pathfinder rules not really... Diplomacy is going around talking to people while Knowledge local is knowledge about local prominent features.

If you think you can logically reason it out then talk to your DM.
