Can a character be from the Mendevian Crusade?

Can a character have as their background that they are from the Mendevian Crusade?

I'm not suggesting commendations or anything more than a background that the character fought in the Mendevian Crusade.

"Welcome, brethren. The Pathfinder Society does indeed field agents from among the ranks of the Crusaders.

Those of us who are lifelong Crusaders are permitted to be Pathfinder Agents by leave of Queen Galfrey - a longtime supported of the Society. Our purpose in being Pathfinders is to discover new methods by which we can defeat the Worldwound and its horrors, and to protect our fellow agents."

OOC: Yes, you most certainly can be. So long as you can answer the question "Is there a good reason for my character to be a Pathfinder Agent?" with "Yes" you can have any backstory that you would like, in fact!

"Why, of course you can come from Mendev, Darling! Dear Ollysta and Auntie have an arrangement to make sure out Great Heroes of the Crusades shall always have a place in the Society! I have been helping out these Pathfinders as thanks for their assistance in the Fifth Crusade. Auntie was quite completely excited when I brought up the idea of journeying south to try my hand at adventuring. As a devout follower of Iomedae herself, I'm sure she recognized all the good I would do down here in the South."

Avelina is Queen Galfrey's niece, so you I second Castigar's statement :)

"But even if you don't want to *be* from there, and you're just looking for inspirational training, the Crusaders are good at that, as well."

A somewhat frail Taldan bard holds up a Glaive.

"The Queen herself authorized training on this, and commissioned it for me upon completion of said education."

Avelina grins and raises her chin, making no attempt to hide her preening. She pulls out one of her 11 wands--each shaped like an Iomedaean sword-cross and engraved with the name of one of Iomedae's Acts--and waves it about as she speaks to punctuate her points.

"'Inspirational' indeed! We are the Light of Righteousness to the world, and anyone who tells you differently is either a knave, a fool, or a foolish knave! As those that have been Sanctified by Her Providence stand at the vanguard against the terrors of the Abyss itself, why shouldn't people want to affiliate themselves with us?"

She stops and taps her wand against her chin, her other hand on her hip.

"Hmm...you might have difficulty acquiring special training if you aren't a citizen already. Auntie has been ever so busy, so she hasn't had time to distribute more special training authorizations, so you might have difficulty acquiring them."

She turns to Rae, smiling with a hint of smugness.

"So I would not get their hopes up too much, darling." She finally appears to have actually registered Rae's appearance and begins scanning them for signs to indicate which pronouns she should use.

It will probably be hard to find mendevian weapon training boons floating around at this point

The Exchange 4/5

A red-skinned veteran in matte black plate mail carrying a banner with an image of impaled orc skull beside the heraldry of the Sword Oath, stops to snicker

Yes...yes, we work for Luminous Rightyness and all that. NOT for the chance to loot Sarkorian ruins or help refugees with their fortunes.

By Shei, how I love being good.

"Well, then. I'll consider myself blessed, then, to have had the opportunity, miss. Have you ever attended a service of the Eternal Rose in Oppara? I suspect the beauty of it would measure quite well against the dictums that one labors happily under in Mendev."

Rae will squint back and clear his throat. "The Lady of Valor does have her merits, as well."

And I consider myself blessed that I was able to acquire two, of which one was put to use right away...

"Oh, most certainly not. I am the Most Devoted Favored Soul of the Inheritor, the Greatest, Most Powerful, Most Beauteous Goddess That Has Ever Been and Ever Will Be. I cannot even think to sully our unblemished relationship with such ecclesiastical trysts."

The way she rounds the word "relationship" gives it a far more intimate connotation than would be expected.

"That's not to say I dislike Shelyn. Far from it! She has a good and proper understanding of romance, in all senses of the word. There are a number of goddesses that I would consider completely acceptable for worship. Why, my belo--um, retainer, I mean--Ayo worships Shizuru, a rather delightful Tien goddess of a similar moral character to the Inheritor."

Avelina smiles and gazes off so she can focus on some image or memory.

"But she doesn't wear armor like She does."

She sighs and cradles her head in her hands.

"Nobody does"

@Rae Two boons!? G+&&!*n. I had one that I traded for a Mounted Tradition.

Hi Avelina! :)

"I am proud to bear both the flag of Mendev and the wayfinder of the Society. The Decemvirate knows they can call on me whenever a Pathfinder team needs some muscle when traveling into the Worldwound."

The man's gleaming golden plate armor, ornate, blunt-edged falchion, and magically radiant holy symbol of Sarenrae seem to clash with his physical features. His otherwise handsome face is horrifically divided evenly down the middle - while the right half of his face is unblemished and human, the left half is warped, demonic, and covered in scales. A single, leathery, batlike wing rests folded against his back.

A hound archon at his side nods silently at Sir Micah's words. Like the tiefling paladin, he too is tainted by demonic energies - a trained scholar of the planes would identify him as a fiendish hound archon.

Micah continues, "I have the utmost respect for the Inheritor and her faithful, but my devotion belongs to the church of the Dawnflower. Never have I, or my faithful ally Caniel, encountered a group more welcoming and willing to believe in redemption."

Hello, darling Anarya! :)

Avelina's Current Appearance:
Avelina

Her outfit has much in common with the standard Iomedaean cassock. However, the yellow trim has been replaced with a more ostentatious gilding, the skirt only goes to the knee and is pleated, and the arms are sleeveless. Her leather opera gloves and thigh-high boots match the same style. Most of her wavy golden blonde hair is back in a ponytail held by at least half-a-dozen ad hoc ties, but a few loose locks frame her face.

Two engraved tomes hang from belt cords on her right, and a longsword modeled after Iomedae's holy symbol hangs in a ruby-encrusted scabbard on her left. Her spring-loaded wrist sheaths are the same ivory and gold color as her gloves.

"Oh, of course! Though we primarily worship Iomedae, the Greatest Goddess Who Ever Has Been and Ever Will Be, we Mendevians welcome the pluralism of our citizens. Such unity and tolerance is emblematic of how we unite people in our Glorious Charge to defend the world."

Avelina's eyes pop and she grins open-mouthed. "Aha! I have just the thing for such occasions as this!"

She pulls out a few folded papers from her haversack and hands them out, a giddy smile on her face. The papers appear to be some kind of newsletter or information packet and bear the Mendevian flag quarterly with the sigil of the Silver Crusade. The heading, "Mendev Monthly," is written in fancy white lettering with gold borders. At the side of it, there's a cutesy chibi drawing of Avelina herself. She smiles as she winks and throws out a V-sign, her other hand on her hip.

"If you would like to know more--and of course you do!--we have a monthly newsletter here in the Silver Crusade, put together by yours truly, that keeps everyone up-to-date on current events in Mendev. Last month's cover story was a LOVELY article on the importance of self-care and maintenance while on the front lines, as well as some tips and tricks. I also include a monthly Profile in Courage on crusaders that have earned special recognition."

Anyone that has spent a significant amount of time in the Silver Crusade's barracks has probably seen one or two of these newsletters before. Strangely enough, the monthly profile invariably turns out to be a rather attractive female warrior, preferably a paladin.

It's a long story, but the newsletter thing got established in a scenario hehe

There's also an archetype for Mendevian Clerics that swaps out a domain for heavy armor proficiency.
