Brawler + Dan Bong - throwing

Rules Questions

Sczarni

Hey discussing a character concept with someone regarding a brawler and using close weapons.

The brawlers close weapon mastery allows the brawler to use the brawlers unarmed damage (-4 levels) instead of the weapons damage while wielding it.

Now the spirit of this seems to be because the brawler is good at using these close weapons they combine it with their unarmed skill to use their own damage.

However the dan bong can be thrown, in the spirit of the ability it seems it shouldn't do the brawlers unarmed damage while thrown but there is some discussion over weather it would still do the unarmed damage or the dang bon damage.

I have heard arguments both ways and wanted to get some more input here.

I don't see why a thrown dan bong shouldn't do close weapon mastery damage. It seems to match up fine with the wording of the text and thematically I don't see why a master of using close weapons wouldn't have their skillset extend to throwing the ones designed to be thrown.

Honestly, throwing weapons is such a poor action in this game without building for it almost exclusively, that if a brawler wants to build himself around throwing a dan bong for the little bit of extra damage that he will get with damage dice for the weapon being increased...let him.

Honestly though, nothing about close weapon mastery states that it only functions when the weapon is used in melee only, and the wushu dart is also a close weapon with a range increment.

I can't think of any good reason to deny the Close Weapon Mastery ability when the weapon is thrown.
