double check: Heirloom Weapon trait + racially martial weapons?

Rules Questions

Scarab Sages

Seems legit, but seems like something I should double check.

Okay, Heirloom weapon trait:

Quote:

Heirloom Weapon (Equipment): You carry a non-masterwork simple or martial weapon that has been passed down from generation to generation in your family (pay the standard gp cost for the weapon). When you select this trait, choose one of the following benefits: proficiency with that specific weapon, a +1 trait bonus on attacks of opportunity with that specific weapon, or a +2 trait bonus on one kind of combat maneuver when using that specific weapon.

If I have a racial weapon familiarity, does it's change of what qualifies as a martial weapon apply here too?

More specifically, I'm looking to make a Dwarf with a Dwarven Boulder Helm (exotic weapon, but a martial weapon to dwarves due to weapon familiarity). Can I use this trait to gain proficiency with that specific dwarven boulder helm?

In case you are wondering, I've got an old GW chaos dwarf model and I want to give the cool hat some rules... :D

And if it matters, this would be for PFS. And it's intended for an Oracle, and not a melee-able one at that.

2 people marked this as a favorite.

Weapon familiarity says "...and treat any weapon with the word 'dwarven' in its name as a martial weapon" without limiting it to proficiencies, so it qualifies for all purposes. (If your dwarf were a fighter, you could legitimately take either of the last two benefits, for instance.)

Enjoy your hat :)

Scarab Sages

:D

Thanks.
