Emerald Spire Animal Companion Advice

Advice

So I am playing a Cleric of Erastil (Evangelist Archetype) using the Feather Domain. As much as I'd like to pick a bird... I get the feeling they won't fit well inside of a giant subterranean tower. I am wondering what would be good to pick. So far I've had my eyes on Small Cat, this way I don't worry about getting a large animal companion squeezing through corridors in the dungeon.

Perhaps something that's good at scouting, etc. Does that sound like it makes sense?

PS: I plan on taking Boon Companion probably next level (5th).

The Exchange

Take a 1 lv hunter dip, get your animal companion early. Remember animal aspects are permanent on animal companions until changed. You can thank me later.

Well I'm already level 4... so I'm getting it right now from my domain. Second, you didn't even answer my question of which animal companion would fit the module's setting.

ES is full of DT, so I'd suggest get a roc. ES is not very conducive to animal companions, if you want flat damage, then any animal companion with a single big attack will be better off using power attack. Get something that has a high str modifier, or will once at 7.

If its large, take narrow frame, call it a day.

A small cat is not a good idea in ES. You might hit, but you'll do no damage at all.

Nothing will fit the setting as there is no setting to fit (unless you just want something that's colored green as that's the only thing the separate floors have in common). I say this because there is almost no correlation at all between the separate floors. (each floor was written by a separate author then Paizo went through and added stuff to give a semblance of correlation--like the scrolls with the symbols on them--and the green shards (specifically being vague in case your group hasn't figured out what they are)).

You're right, a bird won't be very helpful in there.. The only thing that I can think of that kinda remotely fits might be something that climbs--and that will help mechanically as well.

I went with the constrictor snake myself.

High strength, grab, constrict, climb speed, swim speed, decent natural armor, and with the Narrow Frame feat this guy has it all.

I've DM'ed te whole thing, claudekennilol is right, the floors are super inconsistent in theme, so i would recommend running something related to the character.

Also, definitely something smaller than large. 5ft and 10ft wide corridors are common all the way down. In one session someone brought their 10ft square constrictor snake, almost got the party killed when they couldn't move backwards squeezing through a 5ft wide passage.

That's not something I hear very often on these forums. I should print that out and frame it!

Always happy to be framed......wait
