Hello. I am about to start running a game at 8th level where the entire party is kineticists. I am wondering how the interaction of kinetic blade, metakinesis empower, and infusion specialization 2 would work.
First, the burn cost would be 1 (kblade)+ 1 (empower) = 2 normally. Does the infusion specialization reduce this to 0, or 1? I am unclear whether the metakinesis burn falls under the infusion spec reduction or not.
Secondly, is it still no action to use kinetic blade combined with metakinesis? Metakinesis says it functions like a metamagic feat, which for spontaneous casters would increase a standard action spell to a full round one. How does metakinesis work with action type?

As for the question, infusion specialist lowers the amount of burn for infusions only, meaning that the 1 burn from kinetic blade will be reduced to 0, but since empowering isn't an infusion, you will have to accept 1 burn to empower it without using gather energy, which until 8th level is actually possible.
It should be no type of action to use metakinesis, as I believe the reference to metamagic feats was simply to explain the effects rather than the associated action of use. You shouldn't need an action to use metakinesis, it's just a part of the blast unless you're using quicken or double, which do specifically state a type of action.

Also, metakinesis only needs to be paid once for it to be applied for kinetic blade the whole round (since it's a form infusion with a once per round cost), which is awesome for full attacking (+haste) with empower.
N.Jolly has said it all, so all I can suggest is that i think at level 8 I'd have dropped kinetic blade and started using kinetic whip. This allows me to gather power as a move action to reduce the cost of metakinesis(empower) to zero and attack at range. It's a straight upgrade.
