I'm looking to roleplay a strix slayer whose had his wings cut off and tossed into the cheliax arena to die. But the alternate racial traits leave much to be desired and while wing-clipped fits the theme it doesn't quite give me anything besides hampered flight. So I know you can create your own race or even look at the traits that they suggest but I'm hoping that the creative people on these forums could give me some ideas before I do.
No love for flightless Strix perhaps? :)
Do you have the Race book? I would think you could remove flight and take the "points" and buy other things and it should be reasonably balanced. What are you looking to gain for the loss of flight?
PS - When I first read your first sentence, it sounded like the wings were tossed into the arena. o.O

Go wings, FIGHT!. I know I can create it on my own but it feels I don't know biased? Since I'm trying to build a slayer I'm coming up with things that a slayer would find useful. I want ideas that a flightless strix would naturally pick up maybe things not entirely combat focused that could pass as something paizo put out as a alternate. Also its 9 or 10 points for 60ft flight speed I'am not looking for that kind of power though. just put a +4 to str isn't something I'm looking for.
Well, if you have the race book, it gives you the list of things to pick from. With that, you compile a list of things you think fit the idea and then discuss it with your GM. Ultimately, that's who is going to make the call, right?
But... examples from existing things...
Perhaps the wing removal was not clean, leaving hideous, deformed stumps. Use the Frightening alternate trait which usually replaces nocturnal and Tough (for time spent in the arena) which usually replaces suspicious. Lastly, free proficiency with all performance weapons (also due to time spent in the arena).
