The list of available familiars just got a lot longer!

I was looking in Additional Resources today for other reasons and noticed that several options for familiars have now become legal.

Some highlights include:


  • Clockwork familiar
  • Besmaran familiars are legal for clerics and rangers of Besmara
  • mockingfey
  • changes to the valet familiar archetype
  • lots more familiar options from Bestiary 2, 3, 4 and 5.

I like that there are a lot more options. I am still sifting through them, trying to decide if this will affect any of my current characters.

Most of these changes were a result of inconsistencies between our different products' entries for familiars. That is to say one product might have made the familiar legal, but an earlier product was never updated to reflect that.

I really think hedgehogs should give you a bonus to Acrobatics checks. Just saying....

Only if they are blue.

And two-tailed foxes should give a bonus to fly checks.

I'm excited for the rhamphorhyncus familiar! My -1 really wanted it a couple years ago, and it wasn't available. It's too late for him now (he ended up with a compsognathus instead) but pterosaurs are always cool.

See, I was thinking a 5-foot enhancement bonus to your land speed, but only when moving in a line.
