D&D 3.5 Scout

Has anyone attempted to update this class to PF? Or does one of the other existing classes, perhaps one of the hybrid classes, fill this niche? I was just curious as I really liked the class. If I had the talent I'd take a shot at revamping it for PF, but I'm NOT the person to do that sort of thing.

Anyway, just wondering.

There's a rogue archetype that adds the sneak attack on move effect. Also called Scout.

Ah, after I went to bed I sorta remembered that but was too comfy to get up and delete my post. Thanks.

No worries. I had a player ask about it once, that's the only reason I remembered. :P

The slayer might be a good substitute, too. Full BAB, 6d6 sneak attack, talents that act like bonus feat-like abilities.

The scout was probably one of my all time favorite 3.5 classes. I like that it encouraged moving during combat. Made fights a lot more dynamic than "stand still and full attack" for the most part.

I might also suggest the Spell-less Ranger class, which was expanded and updated in the New Paths Compendium, both from Kobod Press

While not a direct conversion of the Scout class, the Spell-less Ranger has a very similar feel, particularly if you concentrate on the more mobility-oriented Ranger Talents (there's even a Ranger Talent called 'Skirmish')

Creating something that was at least akin to the Scout class was very much one of the design goals for the Spell-less Ranger.

I just looked up that rogue/scout archetype. Had never seen it before. It's surprisingly simple and (I think) does a spot-on job capturing the mobility aspect of the 3.5 scout. I like that in an archetype.

I've got the Compendium, and have had two players (who unfortunately couldn't stick around due to real life commitments) who immensely enjoyed the spell-less Ranger. I prefer it over the Core Ranger, myself.

I liked the scout class. I think the scout archetype did a great job in converting it. Is there something similar in the slayer class?

I'm not sure. I looked over the archetypes and none seem to fit the Scout mold.

They should just make a Slayer Talent that lets you do sneak attack damage if you move 10 or more feet prior to the attack.

Grand Lodge

Tripod Machine wrote a Pathfinder update to the class in their Adventuring Classes book. I highly recommend it, having played it to around 3rd or 4th level in a home game.

As soon as I read your post I remembered seeing it before. It's hell getting old and senile.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I thought Fat Goblin Games' Striker did a rather admirable job of creating a scout type class.

Awesome!
