Classes Favored

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

Been reading and arguing with a lot of people about which classes are better then others. Most have been polite showing why they think their favorite class is their favorite. Others including myself at times not so much.
There are about four classes I will never play. One I have tried and find it lacking in every regard. The other three after reading them found them unappealing and lacking something to make them interesting. I'm sure if I name these classes I'd have dozens of posts some polite others not so much telling me in short I'm an idiot for not liking that class and I don't know how to play it.
There are other classes I love. I have and will continue to play them. In a couple of cases I haven't play but am eager to.
Now I have been rude about telling people are essentially idiots for playing their favorite. I apologize for that.
Base classes in my mind are often better then archtypes offered. I have found archtypes often take a key ability that cannot be replaced by traits or feats. In a couple I have found offer something but they don't take anything that will in my mind be missed. With my friends we often don't play archtypes. Archtypes in most cases I have seen are more conceptual then anything. They help a player come up with a theme for their character. For me I might look at the archtype and say okay good place to start but end up sticking with a base class and design the character without the archtype but mimicking it.
Most Prestige classes I have found not worth taking for more then a level or three at best. I like most in some way but have found they just don't offer enough to lose base class upper abilities. Like Archtypes they offer a more focused theme or concept but simply don't deliver more then that.
Multiclassing is another hot topic. I love it honestly. I usually double dip as a fighter in almost every case when I'm not playing a Martial class. I have done it with characters and classes that probably really shouldn't. Because of this a friend of mine has often screamed at me I'm an idiot and stuck on stupid. He hates Multiclassing and avoids it at all costs. Then there are people more middle of the road about this. I do it more for power then concept and role playing. It doesn't always work but when it does it encourages me to continue to multiclass.
This is my opinion. Is it wrong, no. Is it right, again no. Most groups especially that have played together for years will have generated their own house rules for their enjoyment. Most house rules I have seen overall simply enhance their fun without changing Pathfinder's rules or concept. A few radically alter them both. My group's rules regarding a subject won't be liked, that's okay unless you are joining our group then a discussion is needed. Patfinder has done a lot for role playing games. Is it perfect I don't think so. I have found about four big glitches that I really wish would be addressed. But I will say this for them they have cleaned up a lot of problems that D&D had from when they first started ages ago.
