Lame! I keep praying no untoward expenses get me until I get my taxes back. I'm literally down to zero dollars. Even on credit. I don't think I've ever skated this close to actual penury before.

So, a ramble on mindful meditation.
When reading on meditation and mindfulness, the core concept is basically taking yourself off of autopilot. We tend to go through life headed somewhere else. Our thoughts race in disconnected fashion from one topic to another, never truly engaging in the moment because we are either reliving the past or anticipating the future. The now gets little love.
I had never realized how preoccupied my mind was with inane fancies, trivia, planning, and even negativity until I stepped away from my thoughts and scrutinized them. My brain was constantly boiling with thought processes, but none were marshaled to assist me in achieving anything.
By stepping outside of this foaming stream of consciousness I am now able to discard negative thoughts and promote positive ones. I can also concentrate on the beauty of the Now. The delightful feeling of lying in bed. The wonderful feeling of a hot shower. The crisp crunch of lettuce. These can be as joyful as a trip to the Carribean if you let them be. There is no 'down time' or 'wasted time'. Happiness is a concious decision. I have found when you engage more deeply in the now, it changes everything around you. You begin to see things you had instinctually done for years without even thinking on them. You face the lies you tell yourself. Lies that chain you with invisible bonds because you are the gaoler and convict both.
In the end there is only the now. The past is immutable and the future is not guaranteed. All we can influence is the now. And every moment of your life can be savored if you just stop to appreciate it.
Is it easy? Oh F&~@ no! But like anything in life, the harder you practice the easier it becomes.

hi everyone,
got a slight cold, boy got a bigger cold, wife got a monster-cold :-(
on a bright side: my roof is finally finished. new insulation, new shingles, the good ones from enameled clay not the shitty ones from concrete and new windows.
and a roof figurine in form of a griffon, that sadly looks more like a dragon with a beak
now only a new floor, wooden celing, doors and cables are needed, and then paiing the loan for the next twn years :-/ but jeay, new roof

I was thinking of a good main villain for my Spelljammer type game. I came up with a lich named the Maggot Lord. He dwells in an ancient giant wasp hive that circles the Void, near the strands of the Muck region. I'm debating wether he would command live giant wasps or reanimated ones.
I'm also trying to recall the name of the alien race that Marvel had in some comics that implanted larvae in people ( The Breed maybe?). I think they would make an interesting evil race that could be in collusion with the Maggot Lord.

I was good! Like you, I think I was expecting something different. Melville is a pretty snarky punster. I like his use of alliteration too. He strings similar sounding syllables together like a rhythmic raconteur. I also enjoyed his tangential excursions into the culture of whaling. That for me was great as a world builder.

Well, honey has a remarkable preservative aspect. It never spoils so that's a good thing with corpses. Maybe a honey lich's ability would be it just wouldn't give a shit?

Lich is another word for a dead body. Lived it last year every time I had to go to Lichfield street right next to the cemetery. In fact I've determined that the cemetery in game will be called a Lichfield.

I figured lich came from Germanic rootstock. Corpse of course is Norman French/Latinate (corpus)
I can't wait for Sunday. It's the first day in two weeks that I have literally nothing planned! Yay!

No plans for me-ee. Cause I'm sing-gle. And that's awe-some. :P
Well, I do have some plans. I will be watching the Walking Dead second half of the season premiere. I plan on making myself a really cool dinner, I just have to figure out what.
I think tomorrow night I will decant my latest kombucha batch, and maybe get some cider to mix with. Then, maybe head out for a drink somewhere. Or may just imbibe Kraken Rum at home. Haven't really figured that out yet. Probably stay at home. I'm feeling kind of insular at the moment, and I'm not in a crowd mood.
Maybe Sunday I'll start that Daredevil show everyone raves over. Or, I still have the run of BSG I picked up loong ago that I've never gotten to watching. That's like a big gap in my nerd cred.
Oo! I could go to the movies. Deadpool is out. That would be fun.
So much good shit to do.
By the way, if anyone is interested in modifying a bad habit I recommend looking into Pema Chodron's Getting Unstuck. I'm amazed at how easy it is to withstand the feelings of discomfort once you actively acknowledge their presence and don't try to avoid them.

I'm thinking on scenarios for an apocalypse event game. I really enjoy zombie themes, and Z Day was one of the best PbPs ever run that I participated in. I might want to try that style someday. I also have always thought about a really Gonzo one where some sort of massive stellar catastrophe (rogue planet or the like) toppled civilization and rearranged the continents.

the German word for "lich" is "Leichnam" or more modern "Leiche" the german name of the D&D undead is Leichnam.

I am using this long weekend of bitter cold temperatures to cook delicious food.
Yesterday was seared salmon filets with broccoli and couscous. Today I am making a big pot of Sunday sauce (even though it's Saturday) to last into the week. Tomorrow for Valentine's is John's favorite: Beef Wellington.
Oh that sauce smells good...

Mechanic says I don't need a center pipe after all. The repair work will be cheaper than expected. The downside is the part they need is in order and won't be in until Tuesday.
I'm doing a factory muffler. Two years ago I put on a cheap aftermarket muffler, and it has already rusted through. You get what you pay for.

I did go out to have a beer with some friends last night. I was glad I decided to. The bar wasn't crowded, and we had a good few hours laughing and talking. I spent too many years while married isolated (my wife was very antisocial and the logistics of our daughter's care often restricted us to the house). I need to relearn my social skills
