Kinda weirds me out. I mean, Dave has a paladin and looks forward to RP because he knows how to play her? What next? Dogs and cats living together?

It's too much, man.

He did a paladin before..

So. Four hours or so in a parking lot. Lol. The story of my life. I swear when I die I want my grave hot topped...

Believe it or not, my longest-running D&D character was a paladin. His name was Sir Daniel of the Land Beyond the Mountains, and is probably the most I've ever munchkinned a character (18 Strength, full plate mail, and carried both a shotgun and a massive buster sword). And, thanks to the infused warrior PrC from Dragon Magazine, completely broke the game after about 10th level. I played that character in a friend's homebrew game (anyone here remember Dirk Gently from OTD back in the '00s?) from high school through most of college.

In this case, "variant paladin" = "crippling overspecialization" (Is there something to shoot this round? No? OK, I'm totally useless now.) Also "boring."

I've never been very good at the "roleplaying" part of RPGs, and when I luck into a character that I actually know how to play properly outside of combat/skills, it's like finding a hundred dollar bill on the sidewalk. I think with the case of FHDM's game, it's due to the fact that I've logged literally hundreds of hours playing the Mass Effect games.

Hardly boring. And you do a lot better shooting stuff than I do with biotics, unless I'm doing it wrong.

This is the Fate System. There's a 90% chance that all five of us are doing it wrong.

I miss my old gaming group.

Spoiler:
It was me, my ex (before and during the time we were together), her brother (the DM, used to post here as Dirk Gently), her best friend Jess, my former best friend & roommate Alex (used to post here as AWED, was also a member of my second gaming group), and mine & Dirk's track team buddies Jarrod and Patrick.

Obviously, my ex and I have split (we haven't talked in 3 years, after having known each other since junior high); her brother disappeared mysteriously; Jess dropped off the map; and Alex skipped town, left me with 4 months' back rent to pay, and now refuses to speak to me. I'm still in touch with Jarrod and Pat, but they're both on the other side of the state with houses, wives, jobs, etc.

Time flies, eh?

Yeah, I know the character didn't engage you. Plus, that game languished for a long time as I processed through my divorce. It's all good, Treppa is filling the DPS gap nicely with a ranger , and we picked up a cleric as well.

When I heard my guys were dead, it was a shock, but I thought I was OK. I really did.

This is why I ran away... Fate made little sense.

I used to hate airports until I discovered that they serve alcohol.

Airports are awesome that way. One of my best airport visits ever was at Narita International in Tokyo. My co-worker got us in to the Red Carpet Club for United Airlines. It was f$*@ing awesome. Free sushi and beer.

We got power back up around 4:30 PM today. One of my friends doesn't have power still. A mini-tornado took out 6 power poles and damaged a few others. Hopefully he will have power tomorrow. I worked until 9:45 am today with 1 & 1/2 hours overtime. One I got home, the power company as well as the tree company was there so they could work on our power. I spend from around 11 am to 5 pm working on yard cleanup. There is a huge pile of branches and other yard stuff in my front yard. My right wrist is telling me in no uncertain terms that I am done working on the yard for the next few days. I rarely take pain medicine but today I took some. Hopefully it kicks in soon. I still have no idea where the money is going to come from to deal with that tree that is falling down toward my neighbor's house will be coming from. ~grimaces~ If I were able to take off today, then I would. On the plus side I do not have to deal with people and this is just tiredness and over work kicking my rear end. ~sighs~ Another day of less than three hours sleep. Tomorrow will be better. I have to take the cat into the vet at 9 am for another shot (at $22 a shot) to help boost her hemoglobin level and then I will be done for the day. I plan on resting and telling the world to go f-off! I am done! All I know is that the wife wants the internet to be back on. Hopefully Comcast can fix our line tomorrow.

Sorry for the long post.

I think that the ibuprofen, Aleve, and the 32 ounce sweet tea are finally kicking in.

I should probably go to bed before its 6 am... At least its still dark outside.

No worries! We are all here to kvetch. I'm sorry you are stressed from all the issues you face. Take care of yourself

So, back once again at WHOI. I'm flying the main desk tonight, kind of scary, since this is the main switchboard. However, it IS the overnight shift, so hopefully not too many people will call looking for other people who are sleeping at the moment.

I am going to turn in my Comcast TV box tomorrow. I work so much I have no chance to actually watch anything at home. They upped my monthly fees and I keep getting the runaround when it comes to bringing them back down. Of course, I still need internet from them, since they are pretty much the only game in town at the moment. I cannot wait until they get Blockbustered. It will serve them right.

It constantly amazes me how much I work, and how much it takes to just keep head above water. Three jobs, and I cannot even buy gas until next week. I undrstand that a lot of it is my own making. I still stubbornly hang on to my Pathfinder subs, and my Netflix, and so on, but it seems that I shouldn't have to become a Zen monk just to survive.

Get some rest Draco Conflagratia Nocturnus!

I feel your pain, Patrick. I make good money and I still have trouble making ends meet. Of course, there are many a thing that we could cut back on. I would keep netflix. It is only $10 a month and you should get your moneys worth out of it. I for one am proud of you! Keep up the good work.

We go on, as best as we can. I'll keep swinging until they shovel dirt on my face.

Revisiting a recurring (minor) gripe of mine:

Looks like they released Dragon Age Inquisition: Game Of The Year Edition for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, which marks the first time that they've ever had the entire game on the f#$~ing disc. Just in time for me to not have any money, too.

I can't let this go. I take my Virtual Friendship Simulators very seriously.

It's hard to let things go

Well, homework done. Vampire character created. carrots eaten. Now it is just a waiting game ....

Once that you've decided on a killing

First you make a stone of your heart

And if you find that your hands are still willing

Then you can turn a murder into art

Another day, another dawn.

Time to see if my homework stands up to scrutiny

Damn Dave Grohl looks young.

Hard to believe that Kurt Colbain was three months older than I am. Forever 27.

So I'm really giving some thought to doing a few more games. This new job gives me a lot of options. Some thoughts:

  • Sword and blaster type game based on The Integral Trees
  • Post-apocalyptic game with a twist. Maybe some sort of paradigm shift where the rules of physics change a la the Emberverse
  • Suicide Squad game where players make the most horrid characters imaginable and are tasked with a mission to win pardon from the kingdom
  • Zombie apocalypse

Dave Grohl was 22 when Nevermind was released, and he was only 17 when he first started touring with Scream.

I was thinking maybe doing my own spin on his premise. I don't think Z-Day is going to fire back up any time soon -_-

As for Suicide Squad, it would be an interesting premise to let the players inner murderhobo run wild..

In my defense, I've been a fan of the Police for a long time. I've seen them in concert twice. I own their Message In a Box collection (which is pretty much everything they ever recorded).

I never understood why people called them Xbone, then I looked at the tags in the store I work, sure enough they abbreviate it on the store tag to XBone.

Still not as funny as Seattle calling their streetcars SLUTs (South Lake Union Transit).

I called X-Box One XBone when they revealed the new name years ago.

very, very strange week here in Germany:

3 strange crimes and a boyhood drama

1. crime:
a west african refugee grusesomly mutilated another west african refugee, the crime seems to be ritual, maybe vodoo related

details:
he cut of the victims ears, nose, lips and eyelids and pocked hot needels in the eyes
the victim lives, they try to save the eyes at the moment

2. crime,
one of the top three Hells Angels in Germany was killed with 20 shoots in the yard of his own chapterhouse.
he was president of a turkish immigrant dominated chapter, main suspects are the Hells Angels of a neighbouring white racict dominated chapter,
police fears a inner-Hells-Angels-war in the making

both chapters are in my state, in neighbouring counties

3 people marked this as a favorite.

3. crime
In Saxony (city of Chemnitz, 5 minutes from my wifes hometown) police tried to arrest an syrian terrorist who had a lot of explosives in his flat and apparently was planing to suicide bomb berlin airport
police managed to let the man escape and he did escape a sexond time when they chased him
syrian refugees caught him yesterday, tied him up with extension cord ( and gave him a beating for good measure)
Police today managed to let him hang himself in his cell with his own t-shirt o.O

real and unsarcastic statement of the states minister of justice:
"we did not think that a suicide bomber would commit suicide" *facepalm*
