You have to be a member of the Pathfinder Society to become a pathfinder chronicler (although, technically, it is not listed as a requirement for the prestige class). You do not have to take levels in pathfinder chronicler to be a member of the Pathfinder Society.

You join by being inducted, doing your years of training and passing your test of Confimation. Or by being Field Commissioned by a Society member in the field.
Correct. Pathfinder Society has a place and use for all classes and character concepts... ideally. I'm sure SOMEONE could come up with something that they'd not like :P
