Creating new Hybrid classes

Homebrew and House Rules

So i want to make a character that draws from both the Druid and the Monk. While i can multiclass, much of what i read on it is not always so clear, as i would prefer to use both classes as favorites (Using the half elf) and starting with both at level 1 while upgrading them simultaneously at half speed to balance the two out, but from what i read, this is a very viable option.

So i started to consider making my own class which draws from both (Unless someone can point to me something that gives me information to doing what i originally planed) but am having a bit of trouble figuring out who i would go about creating this hybrid class, so can anyone suggest sources to look at to understand the rules for doing so in a balanced way?

It isn't entirely clear what you are hoping for. The Enlightened Fist Warpriest is similar in some ways, in that it gets unarmed attacks and divine magic.

You are out of luck. Balance is not a science, it's an art.

I too can say: "okay, 3/4 BAB, no armor, WIS to AC, 1-4 druid casting like a druid paladin, slow wild shape to match casting, increased unarmed damage" or something, but unless I set it up and try it out for balance, there cannot be any certainty.

Best bet you have:

- Aim for the class to be underpowered. It'll likely be balanced in the end because most people overestimate.

- Get a class that has the same objectives and set it up as a comparison. For example, if you tell me "Druid Monk", I'd imagine you want a dude who's naked, uses wildshape and some spells. What I'd do is make a level 8 THISCLASS, a level 8 Champion Medium and a level 8 Inquisitor and compare them in terms of output, options, and utility. This precludes that you can actually make a good 8 Champion Medium and Inquisitor, so it's necessary to know very well how those classes work and how to optimize them (i.e. Heavy Armor Prof on the Inquisitor, using high crit rate weapons on the Medium and knowing how many spirit surges he's likely to use, etc.)

what are you wanting from the druid?
what are you wanting from the monk?

I want most of the basic combat skills and feats of the monk of the four winds archtype, with the nature divination of the Druid. I don't need all the spells from the latter, but a few of the feats; nature/domain connection, wild shape, and maybe a few spells for a little flavor would be nice as more of a "Primeval Monk" type. But I am not really looking for an already constructed class. In all reality, the druid parts are to add more depth to my character.

Sounds like you'd be building off of the Hunter or Ranger chassis for this kind of class.

It kinda bothers me that Skald has a wildshaping archetype, but neither Hunter nor Ranger can get even partial wildshape.

Hunter has an archetype that lets them get animal wildshape.

Okay, so since you're wanting to make a new class, this thread should go into the homebrew forum or some other forum. I've flagged to have it moved.

A simple fix might be to play the Sacred Fist Warpriest, select nature blessings, and change their spell list for the hunter's spell list. That'll get you a monk with nature casting. That'll get you most everything but the wild shaping. Which is something that very few people get. But a simple fix for that would be to give some sort of wildshape as the major blessing trading out for one of the blessings you have.

Have you considered monk, vmc druid or the other way around?
