Hell Knight Havoc

Advice

So after a week I've got a new game to supplant my old Saturday game (fell through, you know how it goes) and this one's a bit of an odd one. First of all my group is starting at level 8, which is higher than I've ever been before. Since my GM knew I had so many character he gave the other guys first pick of classes assuming I would have a character for every occasion. Problem is most of my character are a bit more martial focused or are meant for specific APs (when they are casters) and of the four other guys we have an Unchained Monk, a Brawler, and a Samurai (no I don't know exactly what they are doing) while the last guy is undecided. This means I need to pick up the slack in the casting department in this group lest we become a group of beatsticks. The other problem is that I know this GM and he has a habit of getting the casters into the frying pan if the group isn't careful.

This is where my character comes, a human cleric of Damerrich who joined the Order of the Torrent years ago. Once based in Kintargo, this order was known for not having any evil members among it's ranks (please note that this is in fact an actual order in Cheliax and not some made up group) as well as an Aquatic motif. This guy is a bit of a career Hell Knight, as his father and his father's father were both Hell Knight's as well (although of a different order than the one he is a part of). Problem is that this order has been scattered to the wind and currently have been declared Outlaws. This guy has fled Cheliax in hopes of not only surviving but possibly recreating and rallying his order.

As for the reason this guy is a Hell Knight, its more for flavor and for being able to use heavy armor to protect myself from my GMs attempts to kill me (I like to antagonize him outside of games, so he might decide that my guy looks like a delicious target).

So what I would like is some advice on how I should role-play as a LG Hell Knight and what kind of equipment I should nab for myself. As I said I'm not all that familiar with equipment since my two other characters I have are both level 3.

Bump.

Are you familiar with the Big 6? Basically you get the best cloak for saves you can, and stack up all the AC bonuses you can as well (natural armor or otherwise) with the last item being an attribute booster.

I haven't played as a hellknight but I have heard there is a lot of lore you can find on it. My interpretation from memory was super disciplined and organized group , I mean extreme levels. So that would be a starting point.

Sorry that's about all I got.

Danke shun! Will have to read this now.

Hm, now I'm reconsidering Cleric levels for Oracle, as the more I think about him the less religious this guy seems to become, instead being devoted tot he cause of order and seeing a good, lawful society being the absolute paragon of order where everyone can enjoy order while still being happy (instead of fearing for their lives on a constant basis by a!~#*!& officials).

Would a Life Oracle's Channel mystery still progress via Catachesis and treat my cleric level as my Oracle levels plus my Hell Knight levels? This DM is a bit of a traditionalist and likes having a healer around and as the only real caster in the group (the brawler has changed to a Bloodrager, but I don't really consider him a serious caster) I feel I should pull support with this character. The heavy armor and halberd use is just a plus, really (also the Diabolic Harbinger stuff).

I've played a lot of Hellknight's in my time, one of my favorite classes to play. Definetly get the Hellknight plate to get the most from the class, and as LG I'd rp him as very traditional, straight laced kinda guy. Try reading through the Paladin code for Erastil for some ideas. Even if he is a different God, I think he'd really reflect LG Hellknight mentality. As for equipment, buy like you would for a Paladin, as Hellknights are great at being in the thick of it.

It would absolutely progress with Catachesis;

If a Hell Knight Signifier has the Warrior Priest feat, his Hell Knight Signifier level stacks with other divine spellcasting classes for determining the effects of those classes' domain powers, inquisitions, and mysteries.

I'm strongly in favour of this tbh, a Life Oracle/Signifier build can work really well and let you mix it up as well as being a great healer/spellcaster, a reach weapon with that build would be perfect imo. It also gives you a more 'Paladinish' feel imo, high Cha meshing better with an Oracle than it does a Cleric in most ways.

Nice thing is that the Order of the Torrent has the Halberd as their weapon of choice, which means I get it as a weapon I can use.

So what stat array for this kind of guy should I use? I'm thinking of going relatively high in Charisma, but I'm not sure.

If you're primarily looking at an Oracle version of a reach cleric build (which is great) then yep, high Cha as you're primarily a spell caster fishing for AoOs on the enemies turn. A decent Str (which two handing a reach weapon will make excellent use of) and a Dex of 13+ would be good as well, esp. if you can fit Combat Reflexes in there somewhere. On your turn you move to protect your party and cast whatever spell you like, then get AoOs on the nemy turn, repeat and profit (obv. Enlarge Person potions will be a huge bonus for this build, etc).

Okay, so at level 8 I'm looking at: 14, 14, 14, 10, 10, 18 with the two point advancement from level 4 and 8 and a 20 point buy. I've also got a Mithral Hell Knight Plate and a Halberd of some sort. What other nice goodies should I look at for 22.5K gold?
