Carnival / Festival / PC activities

Advice

Hello,

I am currently running a Rise of the Runelords campaign.

After some grizzling events, the PC's have become victorious and have solicited the mayor of the small Village to create a small festival to allow its citizens to relax and have fun.

So plain and simple, I need some suggestions for PC interactions and activities that might grant them small boons or prizes.

I played through "we be goblins" and they had a similar festival with Small DC checks and such.

Does anyone have some small expertise on this, or first hand experience?

What I have come up with so far, is your average fireworks, exotic traveling zoo, Theather troopes, I just could need some suggestions and advice on what you guys have had fun with in the past, or would find amusing?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Duels, wrestling matches, archery competitions, and similar could be interesting, especially when their opponents are cheating.

I'm always a fan of making up drinking songs about other characters and prominent NPCs (you could give cash prizes to the funniest/cleverest/filthiest).

You could ratchet it up a notch and have someone be murdered.

Duels would be nifty idea! Something with non lethal weapons and such.

Cheating opponents would be an interesting touch as well. Maybe have a nonchalant bard inspiring his allys in a competition.

I'm thinking of a good drinking contest with the winner receiving a fighting tankard as a price. Maybe fortitude rolls with increasing DC?

funny you mention murder... the reason they are having this contest is because the town has been under assault by goblins and some other horrors so this is to get the town people more relaxed.... though the next part of the campaign literally starts with a very GRUESOME murder

Murder's Mark is a great adventure built around a carnival. I am not sure how it would fit into your campaign but it may be worth looking into.

Silver Crusade

Second looking into Murder's Mark, at least the opening act. Test your strength games, DC between 13-15, fortune tellers, especially with attitudes, etc.

@ Val'bryn2

Im looking over right now and this looks Really REALLY good!

Thank you for this nice suggestion!

Murder's Mark was one of my favorite modules to DM.

Silver Crusade

Oh, did your party end up getting the carnival run out of town barely half-way into the adventure?

Punt the goblin!

You get a goblin with the feat that lets them get knocked back to avoid damage.

Farthest hit wins!
