Trample and Damage Reduction

Rules Questions

Hi all,

Seeking a clarification please. Is Trample damage subject to DR?

Thanks,

Yeah, I don't see why not. It's a sort of natural attack. Basically the rule of thumb is that "mundane" attacks are subject to DR while magical/energy attacks are not.

I'd think it would be, and considering you're usually stomping on them as you run them over, I would think it would count as Bludgeoning Damage.

Very good, thanks for the quick reply

Your mount may make one hoof attack against any target you knock down..

Hooves are a natural attack, of the bludgeoning damage type and subject to DR just as any natural attack is subject to DR.

Always happy to help!

From the getting started section of the CRB under common terms:

CRB wrote:
Damage Reduction (DR): Creatures that are resistant to harm typically have damage reduction. This amount is subtracted from any damage dealt to them from a physical source. Most types of DR can be bypassed by certain types of weapons. This is denoted by a “/” followed by the type, such as “10/cold iron.” Some types of DR apply to all physical attacks. Such DR is denoted by the “—” symbol. See Special Abilities for more information.

You would be hard pressed to explain how trample is not a physical source. So yes DR should apply.
