Ok guys, I am having a difficult time adding up XP for my players, not when it is a pretty straight forward 1 on 1 battle or even two or three monsters; but when its like 8-10 monsters (a pack of wolves, group of goblins, etc.)
Here is an example:
Players have an encounter all at once against:
3 - CR2 Creatures
1 - CR4 Creature
And 1 CR5 Creature
What is the CR???
I tried just giving out separate XP for each creature, but that doesnt make any sense, the more creatures the harder the battle; right???
Also, lets say I have a wizard who is a CR 5 (just an example) and he summons a pack of wolves (6 of them), does the CR go up because of the wolves (more creatures)??? Or is the CR the same (CR5) because summoning the wolves is part of the wizards CR???
Thanks guys!!!

Summoning spells and effects are part of summoning creature resources and are counted in its CR thus summoned creatures do not have xp value spearate from their summoner as long as they are summoned through normal abilities. If the encounter includes creatures that are technically summoned but do not consume resources (spells, items, etc) of any foe in the encounter - for example evil guys activated unholy altar that summons demon bound to it THEN summoned creature could have XP value, depending upon GM judgement.

Well, the EXP for your example, from my understanding of the rules....
*whips out handy-dandy GM screen*
CR 2 = 600 exp, so 3 times that would = 1800 exp
CR 4 = 1200 exp
CR 5 = 1600 exp
Now add all of those values up and you have yourself a 4600 exp encounter. I would bump that up to 4800 exp for simplicity's sake, which according to the EXP award table on page 399 of the Core Rulebook, would be a CR 8 Encounter. Simply divide this amount by the number of people in the party, or follow the awards that are listed for CR 8 on the aforementioned table.
The previous post is right about summoning though - that spell is already considered in CR calculation, since it's an ability of the character. Killing summoned creatures might merit some bonus exp though, if you feel generous.
