Deck building question from a noob

Rules Questions and Gameplay Discussion

Loving this game so far, but I have a question about building your deck.

I took Valeros and Merisiel solo for the first scenario and used the suggested deck builds in the back of the rule book.

I gained some boons during the scenario, and now have a total of 17 cards in Valeros deck to start the second scenario, but I know each character is only allowed 15 at the start.

So my questions is, can I pick any 15 cards from my "deck" as long as they conform to his starting requirements?

Do I have to banish any cards over 15 at the start of each new scenario?

Just not sure how the whole deck thing works as you add cards.

Thanks for the help!

Yes. The rulebook discusses what to do in the section 'BETWEEN GAMES'. You basically gather all of your cards together and then pare down to the number of cards that you are allowed to have with the requirements of your Card List.

S&S Valeros can have 5 Weapons, no spells, 2 Armors, 2 Items, 3 Allies, 3 Blessings. You take your 17 cards and bring it down to those requirements and the remaining cards go back in the box.

As your character improves, some of the feats will be additional cards. This will allow your deck to grow in size.

Ok, thanks. And yes, not sure how I missed/forgot that part of the rulebook.

Ahh noobs! How dumb we are!

Appriciate the quick response.

One more question. For combat henchman, could Harsk use his dexterity for the check? Or can he only use that if he has a ranged weapon to play?

Only if he plays a card to set that as the skill for his check.

Most monsters and some barriers call for a combat check. Weapons and many other cards that can be used during combat generally tell you what skill to use when you attempt a combat check; if you don’t play such a card, use your Strength or Melee skill.

So, if he doesn't play a card to change the Combat check to something else, he'll have to use Strength (d6) or Melee (d4).

Also, technically the cards you don't keep when rebuilding your deck aren't banished. They are just put back in the box. While they seem like the same thing, they are technically slightly different and the distinction will be important later.

I want to highlight this as well - and it is why I used "go back in the box". When you get to later adventures, banishing cards means that things go out of the game.
