Cavalier - Constable, Order of the Hammer

Advice

Hello~ Recently with the release of the Heroes of the Street book, came what I think is my favorite cavalier archetype yet- An officer of the law type keeper of the peace that forsakes the mount to gain an plethora of cool abilities, with a focus on combat maneuvers. I quickly realized that Order of the Hammer would blend splendidly for this Cavalier's Order, with the abilities interacting well. Bonuses to combat maneuvers, easy access to grapples and sunders, the ability to neutralize enemies with nonlethal force.

However, when it comes to a specific build beyond level one, I'm really quite scratching my head. For one, while all of this is great for humanoid type enemies that are harmed by nonlethal or maneuvers, I know I need fall back methods in order to harm larger, more obtuse or non-living enemies. Even if I were guaranteed a high number of humanoid foes, there's ALOT of feat choices, with teamwork feats possibly mattering even more with the awesome Constable ability to plan before a fight, and I was wondering if anyone had any insight? I'm looking for more of a general build, as opposed to best "insert" ever.

Keep a back up weapon and wield it two handed. In combination with challenge that will do considerable damage at all levels.

Depending on how your GM reads the squad commander ability (the one that grants teamwork feats) you can get an awful lot of mileage out of Tactician.

Alright mate, ya want a bit of ta advise on ta 'ld bobby eh? 'loody 'ells dat's an odd on to feast ya mincers on. Right, down ta brass den. Ta prick is rounds 'bout levels three to five it ain't worth goen' up the pairs in dat builden no more ya savy? Better off with a 'noder class 'specially the heel on Tactician bein' wot she is.

See, Tactician works only with the feats ya round up with Tactician. If ya keen ya would drop 'ver tah either tah Drill Sergeant blighter wut gets mo'e or the Exemplar mawler wut can pick 'em solid.

Telling me to play a different class, in fact, actually does nothing to help my build for this class. x.x

Do you want to be able to neutralize enemies with nonlethal force effectively, or do you want to just want to put the words "Constable, Order of the Hammer" on your character sheet? You can have whatever RP concept you want with whatever class you want. Classes are just collections of abilites.

But if you really want to stick with cavalier, give this build a read and see if it helps you. It uses Order of the Penitent to quickly tie up enemies in a single round.

Ultimaterly it depeneds quite largely on the campaign you're in.

Plenty of things aren't immune to non-lethal so its a viable plan for most of the time. Right up until you have to fight something immune.

So carry a two hander, or otherwise prepare to do slightly less damage.

OR

Grab This

And This

Then This along with Weapon Focus

You have now solved the early game damage issue and found a rather nice way to get bigger damage later on. Incidentally this will allow you to take advantage of things that enhance unarmed strikes with your segmented staff.

After that just work on your grappling. The staff is for doling out beats on things either difficult to grapple, immune to non-lethal, or when its simply more practical.

Enforcer is another option as well since it allows you to shaken opponents for a really long time.

My point was at a certain level the features cap out, yes you absolutely should play another class because if you want to get actual use out of the Constable. In the early levels you get features that the class itself doesn't build upon. I pointed out multiclass opportunities that actually make your class features worth something and fit the concept.
