Ezren and Seoni help?

Rules Questions and Gameplay Discussion

Hello Pathfinder community!

As some of you may recall I have recently played my first RotRL game with my friends and will soon be continuing on my merry adventures with them this weekend.

However, I return again in the hope that you could share some of your experience when it comes to their chosen characters, so that I can in turn give them your advice?

Aside from the fact that Ezren and Seoni are both spell casters, obviously they have their own abilities that make them better at different aspects of the game but, I am totally in the dark as to what cards would go best with them or what weaknesses they really have.

Again, thanks so much for your help in my pathfinder education! haha

Seoni's weakness is that she will have to discard lots of cards. Anything you can get to help her heal cards is great. I often give her Father Zantus (once we acquire him) for this reason. If you have a Divine character in the group, then it won't be as much of a problem. Once you hit deck 1, getting her one or two Staves of Minor Healing is great. Combat will not be her problem, but keeping cards out of her discard pile will.

Ezren is awesome. (Not quite Sajan awesome, but then, no one is but Sajan). I like to turn him into an acquisition and scouting machine. You are going to get to explore by acquiring things with the Magic trait, so I give him cards that help him acquire things. 2 Codices in his items. Crows for his allies. When you get them, Swipe, Augury, Scrying. Sages for allies to recharge some of his higher check spells. Later, Brodert Quink and Tome of Knowledge (helps with Brodert and with the Codices). And Spyglass too. After a while, you can honestly get by with just 2 or 3 combat spells and a weapon and have the rest of him be built for knowing what is coming and acquiring it. Mirror Image is great too since it lasts a whole turn to soak up damage.

They will both really want Augury, Haste, and Scrying. Having a Theives' Tools or Masterwork Tools on hand to take care of an occasional barrier can help too.

Who are the other characters in the group?

I'm currently playing through Skull and Shackles with Class Deck Seoni, with role card Dragon Initiate. She can discard any card as an attack spell, to use her arcane skill + d6+8, and her arcane skill is d12+6, so that's d12+d6+14, which auto-kills everything up to 16 without even rolling.

Her final two power feats are good too; reduce all damage damage dealt to you by 2.

The great thing about her is you never get caught without an attack spell, since every card can be an attack spell. I didn't even put attack spells in her deck, and filled her with utility spells to help other party members (like 2x Black Spot, which starts weak but is amazing later).

We're on pack 6 of Skull & Shackles, and she's been fantastic at both combat and helping others, or scouting with items (e.g. magic spyglass). She has a hand size of 7 that is typically filled with go-again allies and blessings.

The downside is she usually needs a cure at least once a scenario, but our party has plenty of those. Utility spells she won't always recharge when they get up to arcane 12 and 14, but sometimes I use an ally (e.g. Old Salt) to make it happen and cycle through my deck faster to get those utility spells back again.

Thanks a lot Hawkmoon! So as it stands, I think they are both doing Ezren and Seoni...at the moment I'm loving the idea of Lini, especially after having you all on this forum give me tips for her.....though I must say....sajan does look really interesting

Lini would actually pair great with them. Seoni almost requires someone to heal her. You could try make due (and Sajan is awesome), but Lini covers a lot of the ares the other two are weak in. She can handle Strength and Dexterity in a pinch, has good Constitution, and great Wisdom, especially factoring in her extra d4. She is spell heavy, so you'll be able to have lots of spells in hand in your group to all help each other.

Don't be afraid to take attack spells for Seoni early on before you have adequate healing. You can play the Seoni that nearly kills herself in combats that she wins or the one that has only crap in her discard pile and a hand/deck of awesome that she constantly cycles through. You will want to max out spells.

Thanks all for your help!
