How is it possible to continue your "charge" after making the attack as part of the ride-by attack when a charge indicates that you must move in a direct line to your target? That would force you to move through your target, which would a bull rush action (and not allowed on that round with the ride-by attack/charge).

Much discussed, much FAQ requested, much ignored by devs.
Good luck.
(To answer your question, there are a few ways you can charge in their general direction, but not straight at them, and pass by them on the side. Some people believe this is legal due to the way distance based on squares is calculated. Others think it's generally unusable as written. Finally, a bunch just throw their hands in the air and mutter stuff about mounted combat rules, and get out their popcorn to watch the debate. You can probably figure out which group I'm in.)

First, let me recommend this book for ways to make mounted combat fun an interesting.
Secondly: the easiest way to resolve it is to have the mount make it's full move straight past your target and the rider resolves their attack as a charge. The mount itself does not attack.
