Trying to price a magic item: Robe of Abyssal Might

Advice

I have a tielfling sorcerer in my group. I'm not sure what bloodline he has but I do want to give him something he might enjoy (besides the chance to change a faerie dragon into a Lunar Dragon ...which he doesn't know will happen but will. Long story).

So I was looking at robe of arcane heritage. I wanted something that would a) be a robe, b) increase his bloodline powers by 4 and increase the caster level for his bloodline spells by 2.

I'm just having a hard time pricing it out. So...help?

30k, based on being a Robe of Arcane Heritage + X

And call it Greater Robe of Arcane Heritage.

Guru,

K. Thanks. Just wondering how I would price such a thing.

In all honesty, it looks like the getting +2 caster level to abyssal bloodline spells isn't very useful. Mostly just a bit longer on some durations.

For that particular bloodline, I'd probably only increase the cost of the Robe of Arcane Heritage by about 1-2k, since it really isn't much of a benefit, so say 18k total.

If I was building a more general 'Robe of Heritage and Might' for any bloodline, but gut pricing would be about +10k, so about 26,000. While this is a heck of a lot cheaper than an Ioun Stone, it is comparatively limited since only bloodline spells are effected by it. I would expect though it to be overpriced for some bloodlines (like abyssal) and probably a bargain for others.

Well again Dave, I'm not sure he DOES have the Abyssal Bloodline.

But I am trying to limit/curtain its usage to just him since a) I figure he might like it and b) It will probably become available when the PCs run into...the Traveling Witchmarket! :)

I'd suggest not having it show up as just an item he can purchase; chances are he won't be interested in favour of his next belt/headband/cloak upgrade. Instead, have it drop from an interesting enemy or encounter, with a little story around it.

It will be an interesting encounter. The Witchmarket will show up. :)

Comparing it to other, given items with roughly the same or similar effects.

Then adding 50% to the price of the added ability if its like an existing item with more or better stuff (Based on Additional Abilities on Same Item when crafting items with Multiple Abilities).

Example: base Item is 10.000 Gold, and it gets better by an abilits you'd say is worth 8.000 Gold if standing alone. Total cost of the improved item then would be 10.000 + 8.000*1,5 (because it shares an itemslot, which leaves other itemslots open for other nice items) = 22.000 Gold.

But how you price the abities is more of an art, as the whole item needs to be checked as a whole.

For the casterlevel increase a flat +1 Caster Level to everything, without costing an itemslot is to be priced at 20.000 Gold, basing this on the price of the Ioun Stone which does this.

The above mentioned Robe does something similiar at double the effect, but on the other hand, in a limited scope.

It is a limited scope since it will only affect tielflings with that bloodline, not sorcerers in general.

This is a special case where you can make the item personal. Figure out his bloodline spells and see how useful the boost is.

Paulicus,

I'm planning on doing just that.
