I am unsure if I am posting this in the correct place, I have not been here for a while and got lost easily.
In a couple of weeks I will be playing in a Rise of the Runelords campaign (my first time) and I have made an Elven Wizard, focusing in Transmutation (namely the Enhancement Sub-School). I currently have Divination and Enchantment as my prohibited schools.
My question is this : Would it be worth it to go into the "Greed" school, as it is still Transmutation, but changes my Divination for Illusion. The only benefit I can see it that it will give me an additional 1 spell per day.
Thanks in advance for any advice people give and taking the time to read this.

I can't answer the main question, as I'm not familiar with that system. However, I can answer your question implied in the beginning - the Pathfinder RPG Advice forum is where you're more likely to get a good answer. Sorry I couldn't answer your real question, but I hope this helps. :)

I assume you're talking about Thassilonian specialist wizards.
Remember that Thassilonian specialists treat their opposition school as if the spells were not on their spell lists. This is worse than the usual penalty of taking two slots to prepare an opposition spell. Using a spell-trigger or spell completion device with a spell from an opposition school requires a Use Magic Device check. The archetype also does not let you prepare two extra spells of your school-- it lets you prepare one spell twice (note the difference).

I would also talk to your GM about this.
When RotRL starts, knowledge of Thassilon is incredibly scant and involves a lot of incorrect information. It would be incredibly unlikely for someone to be a Thassilonian-style specialist at that point in the Golarion timeline. (Of course, your GM may be changing things from the assumptions made in the AP.)

I played a Gluttony (Necromancy) specialist Wizard with my group a few months ago in Rise of the Runelords. It has some hefty penalties but I thought it made a fun character to explore Thassilonian ruins with. I basically played it off that he had discovered an ancient text in the past that pointed him to the Thassilonian style of magic and to further his knowledge of this ancient style he ventured to find more ruins. This worked well also because the Player's Guide for this AP had the Scholar of the Ancients trait which helps center this studying of ancient knowledge as an option and core theme for the campaign.
So roleplay-wise there are ways to work it and make it interesting. As for the Wizard option, Opposition Research, that is up to your GM, I would lean towards no though. The reason I say that is that the ability specifically states that it removes an Opposition school while Thassilionian Specialists rename the opposed school to Prohibited schools with differing abilities of them.
So strictly by RAW I'm pretty sure that doesn't work as Opposed and Prohibited schools are not the same thing. Also Opposition Research has to be taken at 9th lvl not 5th.
Best of luck,
Harark

Thanks again for all the help everyone, I really appreciate it. I have taken the Scholar of the Ancients campaign trait already and focused heavily in Knowledge History to play the fascination with it.
Thank you Harark as well for clearing up the ability. Just means I would have to drink potions of the spells I want.
