Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

So I have a odd request, I am currently GMing the Rise of the Runelords campaign for a group of new players, including myself. We have had two sessions so far and are having a great time. However, I find myself wanting to experience being a player of a campaign as well. I feel like it will make me a better GM. Here lies the problem. We have a hard enough time getting us all together regularly for my current campaign so I'm looking for an alternative way to play from home either online or via email. Are there any groups out there that do this? And are patient with new players?

Roll20 is an online platform that simulates the tabletop experience. It lets you use video and voice chat if you like and creates a virtual tabletop that everyone can see and interact with. I believe they have a "Looking For Group" function on their website as well, although I'm not familiar with its workings.

Another option is to try Play by Post - these forums have a section devoted to games like this. The idea is that, instead of playing by talking, you play by forum posts detailing what each character does/says. It is a fairly different feel than in-person or Roll20 type games (it's much slower paced, for one) but it can be a good way to get a daily fix of Pathfinder, even if you're only performing one action or so a day.

It doesn't fall into the "play from home" paradigm, but if you have time for more in-person play and your other players don't, you might try hooking up with another in-person group, or see if there is a place that hosts Pathfinder Society games (Paizo's organized play program) in your area. The Gamer Connection forum is a good place to look for in-person games being organized. You might also try your local game store or bookstore.

Hope some of this helps!

Wow play by post sounds awesome. Unfortunately I'm the one that can't get away to a local store to often but I can find time to play at home. I have a two year old at home so being able to check-in once or twice a day would definitely help me get a chance to experience being a player. Roll20 sounds interesting too.

If you find yourself wanting to get into Play by Post and have any questions, shoot me a message. I'm new-ish to it myself, but I've had a blast so far.
