Okay, so I know that a black blade can't be enchanted like a normal weapon, but I was wondering if you could pay to increase its intelligent qualities. For example, on a regualr intelligent item I can pay to give it blindsense and increase its senses to 60 feet. Can I do this to the black blade?
Also, do intelligent items sleep?
No you can't increase its intelligence, give it blindsense, or increase the range of its senses. The characteristics of a Black Blade are always exactly those given on their tables.
Intelligent items generally follow the rules for constructs, so they don't sleep.
I wish I had better news for you. The inability to add features to a Black Blade is one of the major reasons why I have avoided those builds. There are ways to add some temporary enchantments though. I have a list.
