Champion of Irori Advice

Advice

So I'm planning a character for if my current character dies.
It is roll stats, so I do not have the stats.
I want to do champion of Irori and take the Deific Obedience feat for Irori, but I just wanted advice on how to go about it.
How would you build it?

The biggest thing to keep in mind is that if you're looking to go into the actual Champion of Irori prestige class, you're going to be very dependent upon three or four stats (at least) due to requiring levels of paladin and monk. Namely Charisma, Wisdom, Dexterity/Strength, and possibly Constitution, and dumping Intelligence isn't ideal since you need a decent number of skill points for qualifications. If you end up with a stat array that doesn't support those needs, you may want to consider the Iroran paladin archetype, which does not inherently rely on Wisdom. The archetype is unable to qualify for the Champion or Irori prestige class, but still embodies a lot of the conceptual ideas even if they don't translate as such mechanically.

Getting into the prestige class is entirely class and skill rank dependent, needing at least one level of paladin and three levels of monk (or four for Unchained) for Smite Evil and Still Mind. Even with an Int of 10, the levels in monk provide enough skill points for the requirements without leaving you devoid of any other skills.

Since you have a lot of freedom with how to use your feats, you can potentially make up for some stat balance with things like Toughness, Dodge, Power Attack, etc. You have a lot of flexibility to just build however you like to suit the campaign or character.

There is a guide around somewhere that provides a build on how to Smite ALL THE THINGS Chaotic or Evil (It was something like 20 times per day through a combination of archetypes, class abilities, and magic items), but I can't seem to find it off hand.

Peevenator describes roughly what my champion of Irori looks like.

If your GM will allow it, Aasimar do well since you get the buffs to your Wis and Charisma which are pretty nice. Choose Scion of Humanity alternate racial trait so you can become enlarged and you'll eventually punch things very hard.

My GM, bless his heart, allowed a 25 point build, but no aasimar, so I went suli and very balanced.

Str 14+2 5
Dex 14 5
Con 12 2
Int 14-2 5
Wis 14 5
Cha 13+2 3

I went two levels into Paladin first to get Divine Grace, then went regular monk for 3 levels and champion although I did take another dip into Paladin for mercy (and Greater Mercy as a feat).

I took Crane Style since AC is a problem being so MAD and a friendly wizard with Mage Armor goes along way to keeping your AC acceptable. Another level in monk and adding the qinggong archetype to get Barkskin is good, too.

As far as smiting all the things, all you really need is the Ring of Ki Mastery (13K), allows you to store 2 more ki points, but by doing so, you can reduce the cost of ki abilities by 1, and since a level 2 Champion can use a ki point to smite, it combos very well to smite all the things!

Another possibility to get an Agile of Mighty Fists with the Agile enchantment and go Dex build; again Aasimar work well as well Kitsune and Tengu.

Ok, cool, thank you, I will ask about Aasimar.
Would Changling work?
I was going to take the Deific Obedience feat, I was wandering if going into Evangelist would be good or just let it normally level.
How would you start? Like would doing monk 1st then to paladin work, vise versa, or alternate monk/pal?
I usually use others to brainstorm, but my group is new to the game.
I want to be effective but not cheesy broken.

Feel free to poke around at this character - it's the Champion of Irori that I play in PFS. The level of cleric does wonders for the class - using the bronze gong ki focus to turn the channels into ki points and then Champion of Irori to turn those into smites means that you have good staying power. Also the ring of ki mastery is really important.

Because we don't know your stats, it is hard to judge if we should build you as a MAD character or as a...well slightly less MAD character. As such I have my advice broken up into 2 columns.

SAD dice (it is a pun!):
So we need to limit the number of ability scores you care about. weapon finesse and agile gets rid of str, but I would actually recommend the guided weapon (or amulet of might fists) which allows you to use wis for attacks and damage. If you are in financial trouble you could also go sensei archetype, but that gives away flurry of blows. Another way to lower MADness is the sohei archtype. You don't have the wis to ac but get to flurry in light armor (and since you are taking an archetype that boost unarmed damage, the archetype might override the class' lack of damage increase).

average dice:
Smite is amazing and the fact that you can smite 2 types of alignments means you want to be smiting whenever possible. "But headbutt, I only have so many ki points!" you say? Wrong. May I introduce the wyrmroot special material? With this material you want crits, but unfortunately most wooden weapons (specially monk weapons) are 20/x2or3. Luckily, paladins give you proficiency in martial weapons, and under the eastern weapons tab there is the sansetsukon which has a 19-20/x2 crit. With improved critical 1/5 of your attacks will regain a ki point. Although this doesn't match the flavor of irori, nothing you get is really dependent on unarmed strikes until 8 levels into the prestige class (total level 12). If you are Maxing wis because you have a guided weapon this isn't as needed.

Another archetype that may interest you (and helps strengthen your weak defense) is the flowing monk. At nearly full BAB you have a pretty nice bonus on trip and a -6 on attacks against you can go a long ways.
