I got an idea from someone else but I was curious how it would work in Pathfinder Society. If i bought a rat from the CRB is that rat already trained or is it just a random rat that you would keep in a cage? I ask because it would work wonders for checking things like magical traps or undead that activate at the first sign of movement.

Unless the description says it comes trained, it does not. You may train such a creature using Handle Animal. You may teach a number of tricks per scenario equal to your number of ranks in Handle Animal. An animal is capable of learning a number of tricks equal to its Intelligence score times three.
Commanding your rat to perform a trick it's learned would be a move action, and require a DC 10 Handle Animal check. Pushing your rat would be a full round action, and require a DC 25 Handle Animal check.
This would also become your "one combat animal". If you acquired an Animal Companion or a combat-focused Familiar you would have to choose one to utilize at the beginning of each scenario.
