I recently played through an adventure path with some friends and one of the monsters struck me as cool to design a weapon inspired by the fact that it murdered half the party. Far as I can tell it only exist in this stand alone adventure path booklet and I included some flavor text to remind the reader about the creature but all abilities on the weapon are from items found in the Pathfinder Reference Document. Should I alter the theme or does that matter in terms of fitting within the superstar rules?

Hard to be 100% sure without seeing your item, but the way you are describing this, it sounds OK.
Note though that those who read the AP might downvote your item if they feel that it draws too much on the monster (ie, another person's creation)

Valid point - I think I'll roll with a wondrous item. Pricing a specific weapon is hurting my head.
