Disguise Self + Countless Eyes

Rules Questions

Hi All!

I need your help. :)
Assume that sorcerer with Disguise skill of +4 casts Countless Eyes spell and then decides to hide these eyes with Disguise Self spell.

He doesn't want to change his own appearance, just make sure that these multiple eyes aren't seen by easily frightened commoners.

What is a correct ruling for this?
1. Sorcerer must make Disguise skill roll with +10 bonus for spell and +5 for minor details only.
2. Sorcerer must make Disguise skill roll with +10 bonus for spell and that's all, as multiple eyes don't count as minor details.
3. Sorcerer doesn't need to make Disguise roll, as it doesn't count as "create Disguise".
4. I'm completely wrong, please correct me in your comment.

Anyone?

You get +10 from the Disguise Self spell.

Eyes all over the place is IMHO not minor. People will notice them. So hiding them is not minor.
You get your ranks and stat mod, but it is not a class skill.

Considering you can change your whole outfit with disguise self I'd say the eyes are minor enough to be disguised by the spell.

Eyes on your hands, neck, ears, and many other places on your head would be pretty obvious to me.

If you look like Seoni, you have even more skin showing.

EDIT: Added iconic stuff

So are whole outfits or a foot difference in height.

Considering it is entirely an illusion (that has the ability to change your height/weight in appearance)I would say it is totally doable. The spell is not physically changing your body (It is a Glamer), it is overlapping it with an illusion of your design. Make an Illusion of yourself, except you are 2cm bigger in all dimensions. Covers the eyes without blocking them (you can see through your own illusions).

I never said it would not work.

The DC is based on how much you change your look. That is, how you look with the other spell active.
Plus or minus an inch? Barely noticeable.
Plus or minus many eyes? Very noticeable.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Okay, let's start with just the basics then: It would be incredibly easy (if not impossible to fail) against 99% of the population.

When you cast the spell you take 10 on the disguise check, giving you a 20 check (minimum. If you have any ranks, or a non-negative Cha score it is higher).

From the disguise skill:

Disguise Skill wrote:
Your Disguise check result determines how good the disguise is, and it is opposed by others’ Perception check results. If you don’t draw any attention to yourself, others do not get to make Perception checks. If you come to the attention of people who are suspicious (such as a guard who is watching commoners walking through a city gate), it can be assumed that such observers are taking 10 on their Perception checks.

So, you are only facing a DC of 10 + their Perception skill. Easy. Just to notice they need a minimum Perception bonus of 10. The caster doesn't get a penalty because they are not changing their Race, Gender, Age of Size Catageory.

Why don't they get a roll? According to the disguise skill you only get a roll if they are suspicous of you. If a DM makes every single person suspicous of you because you cast disguise self and are not impersonating a specific person (the only case where everyone you are deaing with is automatically suspicous if they know the person) they are a terrible unfun metagamer.

Even better, if you are dealing with a high number of people you use the average perception bonus taking 10, making it even more likely to succeed.
