So we all know what weapons are "the best" with the magus...

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

But what weapons are "good" or even "decent"?

This is now a legitimate question, given the very high versatility presented in the new mindblade archetype.

So maybe you want a whip at one point for reach, a rapier for the piercing damage, or a scimitar for the slashing damage. Maybe you feel the critical threat range won't be significant this combat, so you instead opt for a higher damage weapon.

I feel that playing this archetype to his fullest potential requires more than your usual knowledge of weapons, so I'd like to get a discussion going on what weapons might be good for what situations, and how to tell those situations soon enough to manifest that weapon in time.

Critical threat range generally trumps multiplier for the magus, because the multiplier applies only to the weapon damage. The spell damage multiplier on a critical hit is x2 regardless of the weapon. My experience has been - especially at higher levels - that spell damage exceeds weapon damage.

a good sword for a magus is the aldori dueling sword

edit: same stats as a long sword but you can apply weapons finesse and slashing grace to it

The "best" are scimitar (anything) and whip (reach and combat manouvers).
The "good" are rapier (slightly worse than scimitar for dex, pretty much the same for str) and falcata (only str).
Everything else is "just fine" as long as is 19-20x2, "pretty bad" if is x3/4, and "downright terrible" if is unarmed stikes.
