Channel Positive energy question

Hello,

One of the players in our group is doing pretty insane damage with channel positive energy, and so far I haven't figured out what chain of feats or domain powers they are using. They are an Aasimar Cleric, and they are rolling 3d6 for damage, taking half of that, and then multiplying it by 4 and adding it back in. If anyone can point me in the right direction for where this comes from, I'd appreciate it.

Um, why didn't you ask the player how he got the numbers?

There is nothing in the game (that I am aware of) that does that takes half the damage and multiplies it by 4 before adding it back in. You should have the player confirm how he is doing it.

Maybe he's misinterpreting what this favored class bonus:

Aasimar Add +½ to damage when using positive energy against undead or using Alignment Channel to damage evil outsiders.

means.

If he's 4th level, maybe he thinks he adds 1/2 of the channel energy damage for each level, instead of adding 1/2 of a dice of damage per level.

It's a long distance game and I don't have the player's contact information, so I was looking to see if there was something I was missing before I asked in the middle of a game session. He may well be misinterpreting the racial bonus. Thanks for the help, I'll see if that's the issue.

That's not +1/2 of a die of damage, that's +1/2 of a POINT of damage. so 4 levels of taking that FCB would give +2, not +2d6.

Ah, good catch, I didn't read it closely. 1/2 a die did seem a bit excessive.
