1-2C Into The Woods can't be won

Pathfinder Adventure Card Society

The objective of this scenario is to close all the locations.
The first location, Abyssal Rift, can't be closed.
So you can't win?

This is being discussed, and I expect a clarification will be on its way in the near future. Until someone else chimes in with a more official answer, I'd say having the Abyssal Rift on its "Always temporarily closed" side is good enough.

That is how we played it - that we needed to close all the other locations and get the Abyssal Rift to flip to its temp close side.

That is certainly good enough for now.

I think we'll have a couple options here, including replacing Abyssal Rift (we had some location fluctuations on this one after initial turnover/testing) and specifying temporairly closed.

For those who've played it, if the goal were instead 'To win, the Abyssal Rift location deck must be empty and all other locations must be closed.' would that be too arduous?

I think that's how we ended up playing it. We had two people at the Rift and they made their way through the cards while the rest of us worked on closing the other locations.

We played it having the Abyssal Rift temporarily closed was good enough.

Swapping it out for a different location or just changing the wording seems fine to me.

Okay, I'll dig into it. It definitely functions without the Abyssal Rift there, and I personally like that location better for scenarios with villains, so I suspect I'm going to check on another location option before just adding in the temporary close option.

Expect a future update from the powers what be. Thanks for bringing it up.

When I played it, we killed the villain in another location, all other locations were closed and the rift was on it's temp closed side. Sorry, should have brought it up for discussion at the time.

I like the Rift and would rather not see it removed. It's fun.

I love the Abyssal Rift, but with no villain in the scenario there's essentially no reason to even look at it. Just close every other location and send one person there to end their turn. Don't even need to explore.

Mixed it up with 1-2E, guess my memory can't be trusted. Makes sense to change the location to something else.

We played the Abyssal Rift like any other location, namely that you had to earn a chance to "close" it by defeating a henchman or emptying the location, then the Abyssal Rift had to be on its temporarily-closed side, either by burying a blessing or by already being on that side.

We won this scenario in a walk with three characters. This included defeating two demonic hordes.

This is fixed in yesterday's update. What changed is that the location list looks like this now:
1 DARK FOREST
1 CAVERN
1 WOUNDED LANDS
2 MOLTEN POOL
3 CANYON
4 ABYSSAL RIVER
5 SANCTUM
6 BEFOULED ALTAR
We decided that the Abyssal Rift had to go, and Sanctum was a good replacement.

This is a curious choice. To close Sanctum, you have to banish a card with the Corrupted trait. No one has one in their deck, and at this point the party has not gained the use of any loot with the Corrupted trait.

This means, for 5-6 player groups, to win this scenario, you are entirely dependent on luck. You need to have a corrupted boon shuffled into the location decks, which your party needs to acquire. This will be hardest in 5-player groups, without the blessings from the Befouled Altar.

IDK, we pull the corrupted helm all the time.

Pathfinder ACG Developer

In the early ADs, before you get more access to Corrupted in AD4, we try to only have Sanctum show up for a large group of players in order to give you a very good chance at a corrupted blessing or armor.

If any group fails due to no Corrupted boons showing up at all of the other locations, please let us know.

Assuming this is using a standard scenario setup (e.g. it has a villain chilling in a location somewhere -- I haven't bought the OP scenarios yet so wouldn't know), you can also keep Sanctum open for villain escapes and close it that way. All hope is not lost even if you don't come across any corrupted cards or you failed at acquiring the ones you did come across.

This particular scenario does not have a villain, no.

You have to close all the locations to win this scenario. There is no villain, as Keith says.
