Society Play at PAX Prime?

Pathfinder Adventure Card Society

I know this may be a little early, but I like to plan in advance :) Is there going to be any PSACG at PAX Prime this year?

Paizo Employee 4/5 Developer

There will be an Adventure Card Game presence at PAX Prime, but it will be focused on running the demo for Wrath of the Righteous. Likewise, the RPG side will be running quests, which are short adventures.

Unlike at many other conventions, the sheer size and composition of PAX Prime means it makes far more sense to expose hundreds and hundreds of people to the two games through shorter demos than it does to run the longer games.

I encourage you to volunteer with Paizo at the convention. One of our convention coordinators Louis recently posted a call for volunteers.

I was about to say that I heard that there's too many people and so only demos are run but John Compton ninja'd me :)

Thanks! I emailed them. I missed it since it wasn't in the Card Game forums :)

There is limited space available in the WA convention center at PAX for Tabletop gaming. Given that and the opportunity to reach hundreds of new potential customers a focus on Demo Only by Paizo makes sense.

However;

There is plenty of space in the satellite hotel meeting rooms that PAX books for tabletop gaming tournaments to run organized play. If a few advocates of the PACG wanted to do this it would be easy.

My own first experience of the PACG was a demo at PAX. I decided that PACG was not for me in part because the demo was hurried and simplistic (as you might expect from a short demo intended to support hundreds of players over a few days). Only two years later (because of the Apocrypha kick starter) did I do more research into the game and determine it was a great choice for my preferences.

I personally think if they can somehow find enough volunteers to have a remote (as in one of the separate hotels) location for organized play that they can send people to after a demo for a deeper look they would be able to convert more players.

I would happily volunteer (and have done so at a couple of smaller conventions) but am already committed as a volunteer for Sentinels of the Multiverse.

FWIW, we anticipate PFSACG play at Dragonflight this year: Aug 7-9 in Bellevue.

I plan to be at Dragonflight and play lots of PACG. And I have offered to volunteer as well.

My comments on PAX were not a criticism, more an observation. For some people (me as an example) a brief demo of PACG alone is not going to work as a hook. Given all of the other factors at PAX I perfectly understand the Paizo strategy for PAX.

Unfortunately I'm going to be gone that Saturday and Sunday BUT I am going to see if I can help GM on Friday at least :)

Yes, I'll send more details about it (probably today or tomorrow), I haven't forgotten. I was at Comiccon the past week so I couldn't get around to it :)
