Advice

So I am playing an Unchained Monk, quick backstory, we are 10th level, just had a rough fight, and ended up in front of Pharasma. My character, Rezan, was sort of a mindless puppet of Asmodeus that gained freedom and fled, and ended up in the party, blah blah blah. He is all about fate, letting chance rule, and leaving things to randomness. That being said, Pharasma offers a gift...If the Monk chooses to serve her, she will "re-create" me into a Divine Servant. Well, after a brief out-of-game meta-discussion of what he would do, it was decided that he would leave it up to Pharasma to re-create him as she wishes.

So we whipped up a couple quick random tables, rolled, and Pharasma has re-furbished my monk into a Tiefling Inquisitor.

I totally accepted and gave in to this, because to be honest, the character was a little boring to me and I thought this would revitalize both the RP/Personality aspects, and give a little momentum to his story.

So, having never played an Inquisitor before, and never even really looking at the class, I am now at a loss as far as how to build. I want to keep with the theme of Fate/Chance, and I definitely want to focus on melee.

I can pick any archetype that works, and I was considering the Slayer one or Spellbreaker.

Any input would be appreciated!

No bhodi expects the guide to the Inquisition!

Imho, go vanilla. Get the full Inquisitor experience.

You want high STR and eventually 16 DEX to get the most out of medium armour. If you have the funds, getting Heavy Armour Proficiency and a mithral heavy armour (so you don't lose Stalwart) can be an option if you have 14 DEX. If you got the 18 DEX, go for light armour.

Don't worry too much about domains. Just pick whichever is fun for you. This being carrion crown though, probably one with anti-undead features. Repose (Souls) is surely going to come in handy.

For feats, if you are doing the melee thing, get a weapon you can 2H (a morningstar, a great club, whatever) and Power Attack and Furious Focus. Rest of feats are up to you. Extended Bane or Extra Bane can come in handy.

For items, get the usual headband and belt, a good weapon and good armour, and a Bane Baldric. Then, you are set.

My Melee Inquisitor of Pharasma has been a blast to play in CC. we're in the middle of the final book and Im going to be sad to see him retire...

My concept started as him being a spy for the temple posing as a normal guard employed by the Professor, so the Fighter dip gave me the weapons and armor proficiencies I needed to pull that off (and who doesnt like 2 bonus feats?). Judgment Surge and Extra Bane helped soften the pain of those non-Inq levels. I took the Heresy Inquisition so I could better dump CHA without impacting Intimidate etc...although with all the undead I think I can count on one hand the # of times that high Intimidate actually helped me. I had been focused on Falchion originally but the game steered me in very different directions along the way.

Have fun with your new character - you wont be disappointed!
