Altering Automatic Bonus Progression

Advice

Automatic bonus progression. I like this idea, but one of my players thinks to modify it into groups. So, for example, at 3rd level, instead of getting resistance, you could select resistance, deflection, armor, etc... You have to eventually select all of this first group before selecting the second group, but it allows a little more customization.

You guys see any potential power issues with this?

don't see any but depend on your campaign, you know what's right or wrong for your campaign.

I don't see any issues either, and my player out together a well thought out reason.

It's always good to run it past others.

Which ones are in the first group? It might be a bit unbalancing to increase, say, mental or physical stats before AC. At 3rd level, a paladin taking a mental stat increase could get a bonus to all saves, some skill checks, lay on hands, and a (future) bonus spell slot. Also, if you're playing a long game, make sure to keep an eye on your crafters.

Yea I think it might effect balance if you change the order, well at least for a level or two. But in the long run if the end up the same it should not be an issue...meaning no doubling up anything, the effect should be the same.
