We're levelling rapidly so it's now apparent that we'll be hitting level 20. I'm playing a a divination (foresight subschool) arcanist so naturally I'm interested in what spells I'll be getting and I must say that I was most disappointed with the lack of choice of level 9 divination spells and the single spell available (foresight) is pretty terrible.
As a diviner I can act in a surprise round anyway and the reflex/ac bonuses are paltry for a high level spell. I have seen it suggested that the DM could give warnings of impending danger but I think that while cool it could bog down play and irritate the DM. Even then there's the duration, at 10 minutes per level you practically need foresight to know when to cast the spell. For the moment it looks as though I'll be using the bonus spells slot for a metamagic but I was wondering if there are any official materials that add more level 9 divination spells?

This spell is vague (not counting the set numerical bonuses it gives you).
The wording on it either makes it incredibly powerful, or something the dm ignores in order to have a story.
I mean you could have a locked door that only opens if you enter 7618 on a series of dials. Foresight can literally let you do it first try, depending on how you want to read it.
Or perhaps "I really should cast Protection from Energy:Fire" or "Spell Immunity:Envervation/Force Cage/Chaos Hammer" before I do in this door.
Most dm's aren't going to go along with what this spell can potentially do, so it usually just gets relegated to giving the relatively minor bonuses.
Kind of like the old debate about "I cast the illusion of a floor over the pit trap using Silent Image" or "I cast the illusion of a wall at the end of the hall, and we'll stand behind that."

No... That´s a bit depressing. At least now we know why Diviners only had to take 1 opposition school.
You could ask your GM to allow 3.5 spells though. There´s 2 ninth level divination spells in the Spell Compendium. (Eye of Power and Hindsight.)
Alternatively, you could ask your GM if you can retrain your Arcanist into a Spheres of Power caster?

Actually, as written, it only gives you warnings about danger or harm or how to protect yourself. The correct combination to a door would not fall into that category. I suppose if the door explodes if you put in the wrong combination, it would warn you not to enter a wrong combination, but not necessarily tell you the correct one.
As far as forewarning for casting a protection spell, remember it is a 9th-level spell, so it should be pretty powerful within its description.
