Hey folks a fairly simple question. When attacking with a manople (a weapon that deals either slashing or piercing damage) can I use it to deal non-lethal damage with the Blade of Mercy trait while dealing piercing damage in order to trigger precise strike?
Blade of mercy
When striking to inflict nonlethal damage with any slashing weapon, you do not take the normal –4 penalty on your attack roll, and gain a +1 trait bonus to any nonlethal damage you inflict with a slashing weapon.
Precise strike
At 3rd level, while she has at least 1 panache point, a swashbuckler gains the ability to strike precisely with a light or one-handed piercing melee weapon (though not natural weapon attacks), adding her swashbuckler level to the damage dealt.
To me this looks legit (albeit admittedly somewhat cheesy...).

I realize the perceived difference. "Slashing weapon" vs "slashing damage". In the discussions I've seen, having partaken in the beta playtest, and after the ACG was released, it seems that the general consensus is "how you use the weapon" that matters.
If it does slashing and piercing damage, then it qualifies for all riders that apply to slashing and piercing weapons.
If it does slashing or piercing damage, then it only qualifies for the rider that you're using on that attack.
Sometimes it's better to use one than the other, such as when fighting oozes that split.

For an example that does work: A Morning Star.
The morning star does Piercing AND Bludgeoning damage. You can use any rider that needs either piercing damage or bludgeoning damage.
You can enchant a Keen, Disruption morning star.
Likewise, you can benefit from the Bludgeoner feat and the Precise Strike deed with a morning star.
That said, you can use the blade of mercy trait and the precise strike deed with a slashing weapon, assuming you have slashing grace with that weapon or dervish dance (scimitar only).
