No reason why not. Fill it with perfume if you feel so inclined.
Lamp oil of course can be lit, but is it really going to result in an large overall increase in damage?
Have your mage buddy light your target up... couple extra points, not bad.
Good idea at low levels. Less so the more experienced you get.
If you are rich and really mean, consider poisons. :D

I suspect it will..... to the wielder.
These things leak. They are, in fact designed to leak. That's kind of the point, and it's in the descriptive text. Leaking holy water all over yourself is generally no big deal, but leaking flaming oil all over yourself is likely to cause issues.

I wasn't thinking flaming lamp oil, but rather unlit lamp oil for a few hits, withdraw and have my wizard friend cast spark. I figured it could be an interesting idea but decided to abandon it in favor of a shortbow with special arrows.
What our Mind Flayer friend is trying to note is that unlit oil soaking your clothes leaves you one enemy fireball short of playing as the Human Torch.
That shortbow really is the better option.
