Familiar and languages it knows

Rules Questions

Hi,
it just occurred to me that I do not know which languages familiars know.
Or rather which languages familiar is able to comprehend?
Does familiar know all languages its master knows?
Does it know common?
Does master's ranks in linguistics influence familiar's amount of known languages?
Does familiar gain bonus languages from its high INT or uses its master's?
Please note I'm asking about understanding, comprehending NOT SPEAKING.

With rare exceptions (ravens, etc.), I don't believe they understand any standard languages. And yes, I know what you're asking. ^_^

Linguistics is a grey area - it isn't clear whether the familiar "has ranks" in the skill, or has "phantom ranks" that don't come with languages. Based on the wording "use the master's ranks", I think the latter is slightly more likely.

Once the familiar reaches 12 Int, though, it should be entitled to a language. Of course, there's no official list for them to choose from.

So... yeah. Lot of grey area. ^_^

Actually, as per their creature type, it can Understand at least one language once it has 3 Int.

beast knows at least one language, but can’t necessarily speak).

There isn't an official rule on this as far as I'm aware. It likely defaults to common in a standard game, though I could see it being something else if you're running an all-monstrous races campaign or something.

I tried to explore this question here: PFS Post: A Familiar Language

It may have some useful input, although some of the assumptions/arguments stand on shaky ground.
