[Spheres of Power] Conversion from Shaman to SoP?

Advice and Rules Questions

Hey all,

I'm still getting my feet wet with SoP, but I'm curious if it's possible to convert the character I had in mind to use SoP. It was going to be a Heavens Shaman for the ACG, with rotating other spirit, focusing on divinations and effects related to outer space. One thing I wanted to work on specifically was getting a "meteor" to crash down on command. The other thing I was looking for was ability to be versatile and possibly heal, as our healer is a bit unpredictable in her attendance (and we have a party member who does a lot of damage to himself with vicious weapons).

What class would people use for this? I'm looking at Incanter, with a custom advanced talent that mixes Destruction and Conjuration to call down a created object, and then have it explode. Then obviously grabbing the Divination sphere.

Any ideas?

Have to ask how your GM is restricting access to the various spheres? That will determine mostly which casters can do what you are after. In my own games it is relatively easy for a shaman to do exactly what you are suggesting.

Here is the conversion (taken from elsewhere on this forum and adjusted slightly):

Quote:

Sphere Shaman

Casting: The sphere shaman may combine spheres and talents to create magical effects. The sphere shaman is considered a High-Caster and uses Wisdom as her casting ability modifier. (Note: All casters gain 2 bonus talents and may select a casting tradition the first time they gain the casting class feature.)
This replaces the spells class feature.

Spell Pool: The sphere shaman gains a small reservoir of energy she can call on to create truly wondrous effects, called a spell pool. This pool contains a number of spell points equal to her level + her Wisdom (minimum: 1). This pool replenishes once per day after roughly 8 hours of rest.

Magic Talents: A sphere shaman gains 1 magic talent every time she gains a caster level.

Spirit: A sphere shaman gains a spirit as normal, but does not gain bonus spells from that spirit. Instead, they gain a bonus magic talent at 2nd level, chosen from the spheres associated with her selected spirit. She gains an additional magic talent from her patron at every even level thereafter. You must possess an affinity compatible with your spirit’s granted spheres as normal to take them.

The spheres associated with each spirit are as follows:
Battle (Alteration, War), Bones (Dark Destruction, Death), Flame (Fire Destruction, Nature), Heavens (Fate, Illusion), Life (Life, Protection), Lore (Divination, Fate), Mammoth (Alteration, Nature), Nature (Nature, Weather), Stone (Nature, Protection), Waves (Water Destruction, Nature), Wind (Air Destruction, Weather)
This modifies the Spirit class feature and replaces the Spirit Magic class feature.

Deliver Sphere Ability: If a sphere shaman is 3rd level or higher, her spirit animal can deliver touch range sphere abilities or hexes for her. If the sphere shaman and the spirit animal are in contact at the time the sphere shaman casts a touch sphere ability, she can designate her animal as the "toucher." The spirit animal can then deliver the touch sphere ability just as the sphere shaman would. If the sphere shaman casts another sphere ability before the touch is delivered, the sphere ability dissipates. If the sphere shaman activates a hex, her spirit animal can be used to make the touch; she doesn't have to be in contact with the animal to use this ability with hexes.
This replaces the Deliver Touch Spells class feature.

Wandering Spirit: At 4th level, a sphere shaman can form a temporary bond with a spirit other than the one selected using her spirit class feature. She must make this selection each day when regaining spell points. While this feature is active, she gains the spirit ability granted by the spirit. She does not add the hexes from her wandering spirit to her list of hexes that she can choose from with the hex class feature. At 12th level, she gains the abilities listed in the greater version of her wandering spirit. At 20th level, she gains the ability listed in the true version of her wandering spirit.
This modifies the Wandering Spirit class feature.

That said, Incanter is extremely versatile and may work for what you are after as well!

Is it generally recommended to restrict access to various spheres based on class?

And thanks. I wanted to see if this was even possible before I looked into asking the GM if I could try this system out.

Might be a bit of a headache, since we are starting to get Mythic tiers, and as far as I know, there isn't a mythic sphere path yet :)
