I want to GM some PFS locally

GM Discussion

Liberty's Edge

I've been GMing DnD for 10 years and a home pathfinder ROTRL campaign for 2 years, and playing PFS for 1 year.

Recently I've noticed a severe lack of GMs in my local PFS chapter, and as with every other time I've GMed, I'd like to step up to fill that need.

I'm wondering if anyone has a recommendation of a few scenarios that I could prepare and run. I'd prefer something that's pretty straight forward to start off with. I might even prep and run this as early as this week.

Any suggestions?

Assault on the Kingdom of the Impossible (Season 1) is a pretty good starter GM scenario. It's a 1-5 that has fairly simple maps that can be sketched out easily. It can be prepped relatively quickly but still has some interesting plot twists. I also find that it runs faster than 4 hours, so if you get bogged down you still stay on time.

Icebound Outpost requires minimal prep so may be a good choice to start with.

Most of the season 1 scenarios are fairly easy in maps and prep. Taking a look at the GM shared prep site also helps a lot, as a lot of prep has been done by others before you.

I found that the prince of augustana is fairly easy to run, as is the infernal vault.
Voice in the void has easy maps and is well regarded by a lot of people.

Take a look at scenarios by season on the product page--anything that has 4-5 stars on its review is likely a great scenario. Normally, I'd recommend boning up on your knowledge of Golarion, but given that you're already a year into PFS and two years into Rise, you're probably pretty savvy when it comes to Pathfinder lore.

Also, season 4 scenarios might be right up your alley, given that it was all about the Pathfinder's interacting with Lissalans and uncovering ancient Thassilonian ruins.

CONFIRMATION... I always make my GMs for events I organize run Confirmation as a starter. It is a simple scenario that has minimized tiers, a pool of limited options with fair replay, and just enough going on for them to get an idea of what they are in for as a GM in Society. Seriously, Give it a look through.

Also congratulations on your decision to help out your local venue, and welcome to GMing for PFS.

If you have a lot of players in your area, you can also start by preparing your favorite scenarios. (If you don't have a lot of players in your area, then everyone might have played the scenario already.) If not, let us know which scenarios you really enjoyed, and we can try to suggest some similar ones.

And prepping the replayable scenarios is never a bad idea: Confirmation, Wounded Wisp, Master of the Fallen Fortress, etc.

And thank you for volunteering!

Maybe e-mail the local VO to see what their needs are? Have you gamed with them in the past? If not, then you might want to introduce yourself and make sure you are not stepping on their toes. They might offer you some resources/suggestions to help run the game or maybe even want to play themselves so they can check you out. Maybe they would like a break and a chance to play one of their own characters.

As a suggestion, check to see if they are running CORE games so you can cut your teeth on the main rule book and not deal with dozens of other options for your first session.
