[RotR] Out of ideas :(

Advice

Hi there, am Taric and am new to the forum!

I write 'cause i'm lacking of ideas on what to play, and we're just starting the AP, Rise of the Runelords.

Am open to any advice.

My first idea was to play a caster, maybe wizard or sorcerer...

Thanks in advance for any ideas!

Easy Mode= Witch with Slumber Hex. This will work all the way through the AP I promise....The weakest save is will throughout this entire Path.

I'm playing it atm and Playing as a Gluttony Wizard. I am a Magic Jar and Enervation Specialist. A Conjuration wizard would do rather well in this campaign for sure. I recommend against a Blaster and Fortitude save specialist.

I recommend the Lore Seeker Campaign Trait. Pick 3 spells and get +1 CL and DC to those 3 spells. Glitterdust was one of mine and did very well.

Thanks for the advice Fruian.

Ok for the witch, will work well also using an archetype of the witch? 'cause am looking for something with flavour.

I'd suggest playing a gnome or dwarf because you will fight a lot of giants and those two get defensive combat training.

Witch would work with both races.
Gnome: Sorcerer or oracle
Dwarf: cleric, druid or empyreal wildblooded sorc

I don't want to spoil much of the AP but one of the best options in my mind as the game progresses is the Wizard. There is a lot of stuff an Arcane Caster can do that many people cannot and the AP is tailored to them slightly; some of the challenges require a little out of box thinking if there is no Arcane casters.

One example (Book 5 Spoiler)

Spoiler:

The entire Illusion subschool of magic in a Spellbook.
Drool.

RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32

We're playing a 5th Edition conversion of RotRL. We're level 9 and just ended Book 4 (of 6). It's really fun. We have a pretty balanced party (my dwarf cleric of life, a human divination wizard that blasts, an archer ranger, an arcane trickster rogue, an eldritch knight fighter, and a barbarian). The only thing I would suggest is having some kind of battlefield controller in the party.

Not a Problem. I personally do not like the archetypes for the witch. You could go winter witch and focus on cold magics. But to me Flavor comes from class choices and RP which is completely up to the player.

There is a LOT of stuff for a INT based caster in books 4+ for sure. A witch has a more limited spell list but can benefit from the exact same drops as a wizard just about.

Slumber hex, Cackle, Misfortune, Evil Eye, Retribution are the Big contenders for this Campaign and will be very strong Options.

Flight is a good candidate because flight is a good way to keep from getting hit...not much flies in this campaign.

You spell List should bring flavor as well in what you choose...Conjuration, Enchantment, Necromancy large lists on the witch list. Glitterdust is amazing in this campaign for the first 4 books for sure. But I really like the Idea of making Minions out of the Creatures the AP throws at you...Giants make good bodies to control the field with.
