ELDRITCH HERITAGE

Advice

Hi guys, i have a 6 lvl samurai twf and pretty soon i'll be 7, i am thinking of going with crittical feats but many people told me to try eldritch heritage especially orc bloodline. What do you guys think is it worth it?

Do you have skill focus (survival)? Do you have 15 CHA?

If not...no, no I would not advise that at all.

To get the good stuff from eldritch heritage (orc), you need three feats: Skill focus (survival), eldritch heritage, and improved eldritch heritage. 3 feats.

And that last one can't be used until level 11. You will have to spend all your feats from now until then on this, with little to no immediate pay off. And when you do get it at level 11? You only get a +2 to str. You will have to wait until level 15 before it increases to +4 (since you count as sorcerer level-2).

So no, I do not particularly think it is worth it for you. As someone that primarily uses 18-20/x2 weapons, I think critical feats are far, far more useful for you. They have immediate purpose, and that will hardly decrease as you level (depending on the feats; if you are a human with critical versatility, for example, you basically to any single critical feat, and you can switch it out while the wizard prepares his spells if you find blinding critical is not useful against the blind cave monsters, for example)

Eldritch Heritage isn't something you just jump into mid-game. The bit of the orc bloodline that everyone flips for is the Strength bonus, which doesn't come until level 11 with Improved Eldritch Heritage. Before that, though, you need Skill Focus (Survival) and Eldritch Heritage; if you haven't got them yet, you'll be using up every single one of your feats to get the chain ready by 11th.

Eldritch heritage like this might be better if you are high level, and decide 'what should I do with the rest of these feats?'

But until level 15...I do not think the strength bonus is worth it at all.

I think this might be more for fighters, who will already have most of the feats they want by those levels, and they still have combat feats every other level to play around with.

Human lvl 6

Stats:str 20
Dex 18
Con 16
Int 11
Wis 14
Cha 15
I play with 2 wakizashi and my feat are twf, imp twf, power attack, double slice and weapon focus.

I guess you are right i should go for the critical feats. They made it sound so powerful thats why i was puzzled.

It can be very powerful but it's expensive and, as it's been pointed out, doesn't really do a lot till 15 level (if you get robes of arcane heritage they can speed this up though). The 1st level ability has very situational usefulness (can be a bit more useful if you take the opportunistic gambler trait).

So if you build for it and think you can get some robes of arcane heritage then I'd say go for it. But otherwise I'd just avoid it.

The feats it requires are too many to make it worth it unless you want those feats anyway. The abyssal bloodline is better anyway since the touch of rage isn't useful as a meleer unless you take an obscure campaign trait (Opportunistic Gambler from Second Darkness). Claws can be useful if you're unarmed.

Variant Multiclass Sorcerer can work too.

Community-minded is almost as good, and widely available.

3 feats for extra strength is not a horrible idea and can definitely work. Unfortunately a samurai doesn't get as much out of it as other classes AND a samurai is fairly feat starved in terms of being able to use its features. I'd search elsewhere.

Bear in mind the Robe of Arcane Heritage will also help here if your GM agrees it does so, there is certainly room for interpretation either way so definitely check with them beforehand if you do decide to go that route.
