Unchained poison and fencing grace

Rules Questions

Scarab Sages

The PCs recently attacked an npc daring cavalier with fencing grace and one of the characters used straight poison on it. Using the new unchained rules for poison would they still take a penalty to damage. On a side note the poison used was purple worm poison. With a DC of 24 it is a lot more powerful now because it can kill and is much cheaper than other poisons.

The 'strength-based' qualifier applies to the full list given (strength based skill checks etc etc), so RAW they would not suffer the penalty to damage. Fencing grace is not making a 'strength-based damage roll' by any measure (although honestly that is weird wording to begin with).

Oddly enough a dex poison also would not give a penalty RAW to damage as it isn't listed, but ruling that it would do so is very sensible.
