Elemental Spell feat question

Rules Questions

Hi All!

Just trying to make a build of an Primal Fire (wildblooded Fire Elemental) bloodline sort of sorcerer. One of the metamagic feats I was the Elemental Spell metamagic feat.

I just want to be sure I understand it properly. If I chose Elemental Spell (fire), then I could cast, say Magic Missile, as a spell that does fire damage instead of force? Or would that change to damage type only apply to elemental damage other than fire?

I just want to be sure I'm using this feat properly, should I choose it.

Thanks in advance.

Elemental Spell (metamagic) feat:

Elemental Spell (Metamagic)
You can manipulate the elemental nature of your spells.

Benefit: Choose one energy type: acid, cold, electricity, or fire. You may replace a spell's normal damage with that energy type or split the spell's damage, so that half is of that energy type and half is of its normal type. An elemental spell uses up a spell slot one level higher than the spell's actual level.

Special: You can gain this feat multiple times. Each time you must choose a different energy type.

There is no restriction on the initial damage type.
Fiery missiles away.

Be aware that Elemental Spell doesn't give the spell the appropriate elemental descriptor, so Primal doesn't boost it.

Your fiery magic missile wouldn't get +1 per dice from being a primal fire elemental sorcerer, for example.

@ dragonhunterq:

Thanks for that! Just wanted to make sure I read it right.

@ Snowblind:

Thanks for pointing that out! I probably would've missed that little point otherwise!

I was more interested in using that feat for, say, longer range with magic missiles and hitting enemies vulnerable to fire.

On the other hand, I guess I would have to take Elemental Spell (acid), for example, to hit something with a fire spell that would otherwise have fire resistance.

Anyway, good to know, so I don't make silly mistakes in a game with a character!

Thanks again.

It is worth noting that Snowblind's point goes both ways.

If you have Fireball, the Primal (Fire) bloodline to add +1 damage per die to your fire spells, and Elemental Spell (Acid), you can chuck an Acidball and it'll still get that +1 damage per die.

@ kestral287:

That could help make the cantrip a bit more useful in combat.
